Oakland is unlikely to receive good news anytime soon. With the impending move to Las Vegas, Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher has successfully alienated a majority of the fans. The Coliseum is still having trouble attracting good attendance numbers but then again, its glory days are long gone. Among the rare voices rallying for the move, a surprising name has emerged – one of Derek Jeter‘s famous ex-teammates.
Heavy protests from baseball lovers, celebrities, and even other MLB players seem to have done nothing to aid the fans’ cause. After MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred’s approval came the thumbs up from the Nevada State Legislature. It seems like nothing can stop the journey to Vegas right now and the New York Yankees legend, CC Sabathia, is all for it.

A native of Vallejo, Oakland has always been close to CC Sabathia’s heart. A huge fan of the NFL’s Raiders, Sabathia was happy to see the team move to Las Vegas in 2020. Why? Because it meant the team got to have its own ballpark. The Coliseum may have seen its days of glory but overuse has left it wanting. Now, he’s also in favor of the A’s moving because he heartily dislikes Oakland’s stadium.
“The place is f*cking trash. The whole f*cking – the whole place is a goddamn dump. I can’t wait for this new stadium in Vegas. Cannot wait…got my Raiders there, I got my A’s there. I’m still a A’s fan bro like it’s weird, I still wear A’s colored sh*t, you know what I’m saying? Like I still have A’s hats and shit so, I’m still a A’s fan bro, it’s weird,” the retired pitcher told Ryan Ruocco during a chat on their R2C2 podcast.
The discussion starts at around the 0:57 mark and almost continues till 2:00. Ruocco tries to sympathize with fans while also adding that the stadium aside, the ballpark is beautiful. Sabathia refuses to understand what the commentator is saying and starts laughing. “I don’t even know what the f*ck you’re saying ’cause…f*ck the field! F*ck the field! That’s the weirdest shit I’ve ever heard in my life.”

While he’s rooting for the A’s to move, Sabathia’s connection to Oakland as well as Las Vegas roots from childhood.
Sabathia’s love for Las Vegas runs deep
The former Yankee used to watch the Oakland Raiders as a kid with his dad and now he watches the Las Vegas Raiders with his son. A die-hard fan, Sabathia understands why it must be frustrating to Oakland citizens. But at the same time, he also understands why the move is being made and plans to support the Athletics as much as he supports his favorite NFL team.

It may not be something that fans want to hear, but unfortunately, this seems to be the reality of the situation right now.
