When fans take fandom to a whole new level, it makes headlines. Such is the story of the Banana Boy, who stood in support of the Texas Rangers. Flashback to Game 6, ALCS. Adolis Garcia is on the plate with bases loaded and he hits a grand slam propelling the Rangers to a stellar 9-2 lead over their contenders, Houston Astros. With that, the boy in a ridiculously bright yellow banana costume celebrated, seemingly playing a role here.

Cut to today, the World Series is underway. With a multiplied sense of vigor comes the banana boys’ multiplied sense of distraction. Distraction? Yes, to help Texas get an advantage over the Arizona Diamondbacks. But will these shenanigans work for or against the players? One can’t say for sure, but fans definitely do have an opinion.

Not only did the distracting banana boy show up in the banana costume again, but also brought some company. As Game 2 of the World Series was set to happen, three teenage boys ‘suited up’ as bananas and made their way right behind the home plate. Reason? To distract the Diamondbacks who are currently in the lead (at the time of writing this). Nevertheless, how this idea sprouted is something to dive deep into.

I said to myself what can be more possibly distracting than the biggest, brightest yellow banana that I’ve seen in my entire life”, Christian Saenz, the guy we know as the banana boy said. Though the Lone Stars won in Game 6 of him showing up dressed as a banana, Game 4 was not in their favor. His first appearance as the ‘distracting-banana-boy-Rangers-fan’ was against the Houston Astros in Global Life Field.

As the three boys, in bright yellow, try to divert the D-Backs’ pitchers, fans cannot keep calm. While some laughed it out, some were really bothered by what they think was an unnecessary presence. The World Series run is not one to take lightly, hence everything that happens is important. Will their boyish mischief actually help the Rangers turn the tables?

Not All Fans Are Like The Banana Boys Who Show Up

Ranging from trolling these teens to cheering their attempts, the fans said it all. Some were brutal and some tolerant, but most were amused. But isn’t this stunt the most unconventional way to get famous?

One fan highlighted how these boys were a distraction to Merill Kelly.

Another showed their frustration as they appeared bright right behind the home plate.

Few fans even called them a “crowd pleaser”.

Some fans were worried that those boys would distract Monty Montgomery while he pitched.

Another fan could not help but notice how these banana boys cheered on for the Rangers as they batted.
