Legends become legends because of their skills and achievements. However, like everyone else, they also have strengths and weaknesses. Even the 14x All-Star Barry Bonds is no exception. This powerful hitter also needed to be prepared before facing pitchers, especially the left-handers.

In a recent interview with R2C2 at “Barry Bonds’ Love For Baseball, The Art of Hitting, and a Forever Legacy” Bonds expressed his strategy to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the Pitcher, especially the left-handers, to dominate them throughout the game.

This 7xMVP is one of the most potent hitters in MLB of all time. Though controversies surrounded him throughout his career, even his haters can’t deny his skills. However, this powerful hitter once opened up his mind during an interview and said he used to watch videos to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the pitchers.

While they have been talking about this MLB Star’s evolution to become one of the greatest hitters, he was asked whether he used to watch videos of the pitchers to be prepared for what was coming or face them directly without any prior preparation. In reply, the legend said, “No, I watch videos. Yeah, I watched some videos of pitchers like mostly were lefty.” He mentioned that the lefty-lefty combination is the most challenging one. Then, with a smile, he added, “I would technically watch briefly. I could probably pick them apart within the first 5 minutes and know exactly where his weaknesses his strengths are. And then I would go up for that.”

This statement was made casually, as there’s nothing exceptional in watching videos of pitchers before going to face them. Well, that’s true, though. Players often do it to understand the opponent, but fans are surprised that even legends need preparation before appearing on the field.

Barry Bonds’ Performance Against Lefty-Pitchers in MLB

Barry Bonds was a left-handed hitter, and according to him, facing a left-handed pitcher was the deadly part. This legend used to fear left-handed pitchers the most, and compared to his records against right-handed pitchers, his record against left-handed pitchers seems nothing. While he had a .289 batting average against lefty pitchers, it went up to .303 against the right-handed ones.

However, the legend claimed it took only 5 minutes to calculate the strengths and weaknesses of a player when he watched a video. However, his Home Run average against left-handed pitchers is 227. So, he was still weak against them, even after watching their footage.

Even the best players have their weaknesses. No one can be perfect. So, Barry Bonds watching videos to prepare himself for upcoming fights will not lessen his fame. His achievements make up for his little failures.
