It seems the baseball world is about to witness a match made in heaven. The Philadelphia Phillies recently started strolling around the free agency market to look for a short-term association right after the exceptional pitcher Blake Snell demonstrated flexibility with his contract demand. The Phillies, who have seemingly well-articulated their pitching segment, are opting to add depth to their roster by adding Snell, as remarked by the President of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski.
On the other hand, the super agent Scott Boras’s two available powerhouses, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, have showcased enough flexibility to their asking by agreeing to a short-term deal right after Bellinger and Chapman’s shorter associations. Now, as the Phillies are up for a short-term contract, will this mark a conclusion about the Snell’s digging?

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports, the Philadelphia Phillies are up for bringing Blake Snell to their troop but only for one year or a similar short-term pact. The team already has an influential pitching segment with Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez, Taijuan Walker and Christopher Sanchez on their roster list. Now, adding the two-time Cy Young winner will add value to their powerful pitcher’s force.
This is not the first time the team has shown intensity in bolstering their force, but earlier this, they already showcased aggressiveness under President Dombrowskil and team chairman John Middleton’s shelter to claim the biggest title, the World Series. On a similar note, their Snell addition will only make Sanchez’s swinging power even more heightened. As there will be barely anyone who will be willing to face the trio of Snell, Wheeler and Nola within a short series.
But despite the win-win opportunity, the club has setbacks with the monetary complexion. Signing the ace with a short-term contract will lead them to give up $1mm in international bonus pool funds. Moreover, the Phillies have traversed the Competitive Balance Tax threshold in both the previous years and their signing Snell would land them on the huge penalty threshold of $277 million.

The Pinstripes, who intend to draft a dominant pitching segment, have been eyeing the outstanding pitcher for quite some time. Moreover, they have had meetings with Scott Boras, who represents Snell, though any official confirmations are yet to come. Apart from that, giant teams like the Mets and Red Sox are also in need of a commanding pitcher, and it would not be groundless to imagine a connection between them, especially in this competing free-agency market.
