MLB has seen unthinkable things this season from Shohei Ohtani’s epic 50-50 feat to the massive Juan Soto deal. But those were, in a way, expected. However, what went down recently at Amazin’ Day was one no one saw coming. So the story goes—the New York Mets fans were chanting Pete Alonso’s name, asking for him to be back. But Steve Cohen couldn’t have it anymore and gave a brutal reply. And guess what— for him, the Pete Alonso deal is tougher than it was with Juan Soto!

“Personally, this has been an exhausting conversation and negotiation. I mean, Soto was tough—this is worse,” Cohen said. Now Scott Boras has apparently presented the team with an opt-out option and has to pay Alonso if he chooses that option. Now this ticked Steve off, “I don’t like the negotiations. I don’t like what’s been presented to us.” And well, since then, Boras has been on fire from the internet with many thinking he might have overplayed his hand. Now insiders are even saying Alonso might be regretting having rejected the Met’s offer in the first place.

Pete Alonso is in a tough spot because of Boras’s tactics

Even though the Mets’ door seems to be slammed shut right now for Pete Alonso, there are other options. According to several sources, Scott Boras is heavy on talks with the Toronto Blue Jays. MetsCast posted on X that, Boras has a deal all set with the Jays, but Pete has yet to sign it.” However, it turns out that Pete Alonso has apparently rejected to go to Toronto.

Yes, Early Game on YouTube reported that Pete is not happy with what is unfolding, especially after what happened on Amazin’ Day. Insider reports, “I have heard Scott Boras was deep into negotiations with the Blue Jays, but that Pete ultimately nixed the deal. He has told Scott Boras he wants to return to New York.” So Pete Alonso is upset and doesn’t want to play for the Blue Jays. And he is not really feeling good about how things going with the Mets.

What’s your perspective on:

Are Boras's tactics hurting players like Alonso and Bregman more than helping them secure better deals?

“What adds up to me is that Pete is starting to regret hiring Scott Boras. Had he not hired Scott, he’d be a New York Met already,” claimed an insider at Early Game. And really, it’s not surprising that he would regret his decision of rejecting a great offer by the Mets in 2023 – a $158 million deal. Scott Boras must have given him a false sense of value. Let’s face the truth. At 30, players’ value sometimes regresses, and on top of that, Pete also had declining gameplay.

However, this Boras tactic is not the first and one of a kind. He has been doing it for ages, and now everyone, including the owners, is wary of it. Hence, no one, not even Steve Cohen, is ready to bend the knee. And it’s not just Pete Alonso who’s regretting.

Alex Bregman and Alonso mirror images of the same gamble

If Pete Alonso stood in the room with Alex Bregman right now, it would look like they were staring at the mirror. Both are top-class players, both in their thirties and both have rejected good offers in the hopes for more. Well, the common link? Scott Boras. Bergman’s uncomfortable scenario started when he rejected a good enough offer of six years and $156 million from the Houston Astros.

The number was not far from his aspirations, and he was even warned by insiders that he might regret the decision. Well, apparently, he is. Baseball analyst Bruce Levine mentioned on the podcast @670TheScore, “According to his friend, he regretted doing it. There is talk that he may return to Houston.” Because Negotiations with the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs didn’t ultimately land anywhere.

Now as far as the Houston Astros are concerned, Dana Brown (GM), is unlikely to sign Bregman now. “It’s probably a long shot, but the fact that he’s a free agent, we’ll have discussions about him like we have discussions about any other free agent,” Brown mentioned on Saturday. Even his talks with the Boston Red Sox have cooled down. So things are not looking bright for either Bregman or Alonso.
