It looks like the Mets have moved on from Pete Alonso and Alonso has decided to do the same. After all, why shouldn’t he? The team that he had helped so much left him feeling unwanted. Although the Mets did put an offer before him, it was nowhere near the price tag Alonso wanted. The price tag that the Mets put was nearly $70 million for three years, but Pete Alonso expected more from a team he was a part of for 5 years.
Now the ‘Polar Bear’ is not a bad player nor a bad clubhouse guy. It is just that he may be asking more than what he is worth and Alonso and Scott Boras should realize that by now. With Alonso’s favorite team, the Mets, out of the running, another team has shown a heavy interest in the first baseman’s services. The team is none other than the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays show heavy interest in Pete Alonso after the main team backs out
The Blue Jays have been associated with a lot of big names in the past, but they have failed to procure them. So now the question is, can they really sign Pete Alonso? It’s a possibility. According to MLB insider MoccBomb, “BlueJays have made it clear to Alonso and his camp that they want Alonso, Alonso has made it clear to them he is ready for a new chapter in his career.” However, the insider also mentions that while nothing is on paper yet, anything can happen in the next 2 days as the baseball world is as unpredictable as Starbucks employees spelling your name correctly.
Sources: #BlueJays have made it clear to Alonso and his camp that they want Alonso, Alonso has made it clear to them he is ready for a new chapter in his career. However, I’ve been told NOTHING is close at this time. Not ruling out the chances we could see a deal get done in the…

Pete Alonso might’ve had a bit of a rollercoaster year in 2024, but let’s not forget—the dude’s still got power. Sure, his .788 OPS marked a career-low, but the big guy didn’t just roll over and take it. The 30-year-old played in all 162 games, racking up 34 home runs and 88 RBIs, proving that no slump could take away his raw pop at the plate. The batting average? Meh, it was a little low at .240, but when you’ve got the kind of power Alonso does, sometimes you just need to wait for your pitch and let it rip. And here’s the thing: When the Mets needed him most, Alonso stepped up in a major way during the postseason. So while New York might not be interested, others might.
AL West team emerges as a surprise landing spot for the ‘Polar Bear’
The Alonso sweepstakes are heating up, and it’s anyone’s guess where the big slugger will land. While the Mets and Blue Jays are still in the mix, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller threw a bit of a curveball, suggesting that the Seattle Mariners could be a “surprise landing spot.” Now, this would be a shocking turn of events, but it actually makes some sense. The Mariners have had one of the most lackluster offenses in recent memory, and their star-studded rotation got wasted last season because of it. They desperately need a big bat, and who better than Pete Alonso to fill that void?

The twist here, though, is the Mariners’ notoriously tight budget. They’ve spent the offseason doing practically nothing to improve their lineup—aside from signing 37-year-old Donovan Solano—and their front office tends to act like it’s scraping for loose change. So, the idea of them splurging on a guy like Alonso is a bit of a head-scratcher. But hey, if they can somehow make the numbers work, it could be the move that pushes them over the hump and finally breaks the playoff drought.
If they did pull it off, Miller suggests Seattle might have to trade away Luis Castillo—who’s still got three years and $72.5M left on his deal—to balance the books. Trading Castillo would likely bring in some nice prospects, which could soften the blow of losing their ace. But if the Mariners could swing a deal where they get Pete Alonso for roughly the same amount of money left on Castillo’s contract, plus some young talent, it might just be the power move that makes them instant contenders. A bold strategy, but hey, sometimes you’ve gotta take a gamble.
