The MLB All-Star, Pete Alonso, is in the news again! While Alonso’s stalemates continue to grow with the New York Mets, a top MLB insider, Brandon Tierney, suggested Pete and the Mets get the deal done as soon as possible. The Polar Bear hasn’t yet found a perfect landing destination, which is quite surprising for a player of his caliber. However, it is also true that he has rejected a short-term offer that the Mets placed on his table.
But that’s not the only instance—Pete Alonso has even rejected a six-year, $158 million deal offered by the Mets in 2023. Ever since Pete became the free agent, he is looking for a long-term deal worth at least $200 million, which the teams don’t seem much interested in. The main reason is that Pete is already 30 years of age; there are uncertainties on how he may perform in the next two to three years. Thus, amid the shrinking sweepstakes, another team seems to be a major contender—the Toronto Blue Jays, maybe?
Pete Alonso and Steve Cohen must unite to get the deal done

While the fans are very excited to see the Polar Bear back in the Mets’ jersey, the disagreement over Alonso’s contract negotiations seems to make the reunion unlikely. Also, Mets’ owner, Steve Cohen, has shared his intent of moving forward with new players and Pete not being the perfect fit considering that they have an expensive group already. However, this leaves a major gap in the Mets’ first base. On February 1, a top MLB insider named Brandon Tierney said, “You always had to find a way to get this done. And, given the incomplete nature of the Mets’ lineup, you need him and he needs you.”

Brandon mentioned that Scott Boras might be thinking that his agent, Pete Alonso, is worth something more than what he was offered. And now, with his sweepstakes shrinking rapidly, he advised not to go into too much detail but rather focusing on what was in hand. Brandon sees the persisting gap between what the Mets have to offer and what Pete wants. Moreover, Pete’s absence may be a huge loss for the Mets, given that they are not going for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and there’s no Anthony Santander to save their games as well. So, what lies ahead for Alonso?
Pete’s record has been astounding. He made 226 home runs, averaging 43 in 162 games, and has been named an All-Star multiple times too. His contribution to the Mets can never be ignored; however, with the growing conflicts between him and the New York Mets, the deal is unlikely. But the Toronto Blue Jays aren’t ready to give up yet, as they look to acquire Alonso’s services.
The Blue Jays may just be the lucky one to get the Polar Bear
Amid the growing stalemates between the Mets and Pete Alonso, the Toronto Blue Jays have still been pursuing the free agent. While it feels like a situation where Alonso is waiting for the Mets to make a call, the Blue Jays are looking to strengthen their offense. Thus, adding Pete to their lineup would provide a massive boost to their offense. It’s worth mentioning that the club does have the desired funds that might be required to sign him, although it all comes down to whether he would leave the Mets’ offer for the Blue Jays or not. But that doesn’t end here for the Blue Jays!

The club is also looking to secure the services of the Canadian first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Their intention to bring in Vlad can be a dealbreaker, given that he has been quite consistent in his performance. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is just on every single pitch, to be precise, given that he has a batting average of.400 with. an 825 slugging percentage and 1.304 OPS. That’s massive! However, there is no official confirmation yet, but the Blue Jays would look to seal the deal before it’s too late.
