The high-octane clash between the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals saw a frenzy drama at the end of the first innings. It featured everything an MLB game would not want to have; right from the stadium bench’s clearing to a manager getting ejected. The game looked like a UFC brawl that took the shape of a baseball game, and guess why!

The night before, when Padres’s Juriskson Profar smashed a walk-off hit and celebrated near the Washington Nationals dugout, everyone knew something was brewing. Yet again, the next day, he smashed his sixth innings grand slam, making his team win 9-7 at Petco Park. So, what happened at the start of the game before Padres’s astonishing victory?

It all started when the Nationals catcher Ruiz challenged Juriskson Profar and kept his hand on Profar’s shoulder just before Juriskson’s plate appearance. With the argument heating up, Machado took control of the field and kept his hands on Ruiz’s shoulders. This led to benches clearing up, and fans started leaving the park in no time. “I took exception (to being touched on the shoulder),” Profar said, adding, “You can talk, but you can’t touch. But at the same time, I’m in a situation that I got to be smart, and I don’t want to get suspended or thrown out of the game. It wouldn’t be good for my team.”

Looking at the restored law and order, Brian Walsh, the home-plate umpire, warned both teams. Yet again, MacKenzie Gore hit Profar on the back foot with his very first pitch. But the umpire didn’t take any action against him. On the contrary, when San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt thrived to the field, third-base umpire Adam Hamari ejected him immediately. And if that’s not all, the drama continued in less than 24 hours.

Two innings after the benches cleared, Machado homered a home run, taking the Nationals a lead with a four-run. Fighting back, the San Diego Padres took the lead from the bottom of the fifth inning, where Donovan Solano scored a two-run single. Eventually, in the sixth innings, the San Diego Padres loaded each base with no outs. This forced the Nationals bullpen to have no option but to pitch to Arraz. Swinging the ball, he smashed at a 2-0 count. While Profar succeeded in pulling the drive inside the right-field pole, he made the Petco Park roar with celebration.

With heated arguments on the field, fans on social media were vocal on the issue. Amidst a fight of the fans from both ends, a fan wrote, “Why issue warnings if they aren’t going to enforce anything?”. Such comments were clearly pointing at the umpire when MacKenzie Gore hit Profar but was not ejected. Going by the rules, the next pitch by any pitcher cannot hit the batter. If that’s the case, the umpire can eject him out of the game.

Following other witty and rampant comments, one enthusiast noted, “Seemed like Ruiz was initially peacefully parting him on the shoulder, maybe explaining what happened last night, and them Johnny Hustle got involved.” Clearly, they seemed to support the Washington Nationals. Despite Keibert Ruiz’s challenging San Diego Padres’s Profar on the field, the umpire didn’t take any action against him. Subsequently, extending their support to Profar and Manny, another fan wrote, “Gore should’ve been gone after that. Good thing Manny and Profar homered in the game and let their game do the talking. Nats are lame.” Indeed, despite the chaos on the field, Profar’s heroics at the end made the Padres win the thrilling game.

In a fight that involved only verbal action and no real body power, a fan jokingly commented, “Fight like they do in hockey or at least take the bats out and beat each other. What’s the point of screaming at each other like middle school girls?”. In hockey, there have been several instances where the players have taken out their sticks and hit each other. Much like the incident from 2021, when a match between the Red Wings and Blue Jackets Hockey team resulted in an intense stick-fight brawl.

At the moment, the fight between the San Diego Padres and the Nationals seems to take a breather. However, as the series continues, the next match awaits between the two. Yet again, it’s in Petco Park, and the fans might express themselves rather than walking off the park. So far, it’s advantage Padres with Jurickson Profar making way for a two-game victory, looking in red-hot form. What’s your thought on the Padres vs Nationals Brawl?
