Is Aaron Judge's slump the Achilles' heel for the Yankees in this World Series?

When Derek Jeter claimed New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers was to be a ‘dream series’—we bet he didn’t see his former team struggle this way. The World Series games, instead of being the nail-biting and edge-to-edge that most anticipated, are falling flat on their noses. Mostly because the Yankees can’t keep up; after all, their star player Aaron Judge can’t seem to get the rhythm of the regular season back. And this is why they lost 4-2 in Game 2 yet again on Saturday.

The only players of the Yankees who showed promise that day were Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton. Soto hit a solo home in the third inning, and finally, in the ninth inning, Stanton brought in a run with an RBI single, narrowing the gap to 4-2. But it was too late for anything game-changing to happen. Judge, meanwhile, had a challenging night and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts! But it seems like his teammate Stanton, even after that, has no complaints.

Aaron Judge has only one hit in nine plate appearances in the World Series. At this point, it looks like things might end where they started for him in the post-season. Even Judge himself admitted the bitterness of this situation, claiming, “I’m failing” during his post-game media exchange. Judge has also vowed to stand by Stanton and Soto, given they are the ones holding the team together, and Stanton has full faith in his captain.

When talking to the media after their dire loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Stanton noted there is more to the picture when it comes to Judge, sharing, “I think the overall numbers don’t say for how good of at-bats he’s had.” Giancarlo Stanton has always been quick to praise others or keep the team forward; he is one of those few players to have a 60-homer feat, yet, he is never shy about appreciating the rest.

In the regular season, Stanton praised Aaron Judge when he hit 44 home runs in 99 games. “He’s playing a video game; all of us are out here grinding,” he said. Moreover, he is always calm under pressure, which undermines his recent success – the 34-year-old truly should be called ‘Stanton Cool’- a trait many of his fans appreciate.

Giancarlo Stanton: A humble, gritty, and hometown celeb

For all Yankee fans, Giancarlo Stanton is a force at the plate. But for his hometown people back at Sherman Oaks, he is a legend, making them proud in the World Series. Even though the place isn’t so far from Dodgers Arena, the Notre Dame High School alum still admires Stanton the most. His varsity coach Tom Dill recalled: He was a little bit bigger than everybody else, a little bit faster, a little bit stronger.” He further added that Stanton didn’t play just baseball, but was also interested in basketball and football.

Now, Giancarlo Stanton holds the record for the most postseason runs in New York Yankee history, crossing even Babe Ruth. But he is humble about it; Stanton noted: “But Babe Ruth has rings, and I don’t. So, that’s what I’m working for.” This quality of humility, as confirmed by Coach Dill, was always within him, “Very humble. He’s always been that way, not someone bragging about himself. I mean, he knows what he can do,” Dill mentioned about him.

Even now, after all the success, Stanton hasn’t forgotten his roots, giving his high school team new Nike gear every year. As for the town supper, Coach Dill added that he has a family in the Yankee, so, his support is with them and not the Dodgers. Hopefully, Game 3 will be great for Giancarlo and the Yankees!
