The offseason has been all about signings from the New York Yankees. After making multiple trades, they have signed Oscar Gonzalez from the Guardians. Though the deal was made on a positive note, it is questionable due to the recent past. A post from the Talkin’ Yanks focused on the same.
What you need to know about newest Yankee Oscar Gonzalez:
-Good hitter as a rookie in 2022
-Spent most of 2023 in minors and struggled in 54 MLB games
-Plays right field but not well
-Walk-up song is SpongeBob theme
-Will inevitably bat cleanup in July when everyone is hurt pic.twitter.com/ESghlWQR1a— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) December 1, 2023
It gave the width to the perception that the young had lost his touch. The reason is a decrease in his contribution offensively and defensively after the 2022 season. Notably, Gonzalez averaged 0.296 with 39 runs and 11 home runs at an OPS of 0.789. However, the 2023 has not been good for the outfielder.
In 173 at-bats, he scored only 15 runs and 12 RBIs, averaging 0.214 at an OPS of 0.551. Although his stats improved in the minor leagues, there are still not enough to ouster the doubts about his worth. However, fans have another thought about this signing.
