Ever since his MLB debut, Corbin Carroll has been on a meteoric rise. An instrumental player on the Arizona Diamondbacks lineup, the young outfielder has helped his team to the best record in the league. On Monday, he was even named the NL Player of the Week. But then he came face-to-face with the Philadelphia Phillies.
In the first inning of the first game of the match-up between the two teams, Carroll was hit in the left forearm by a pitch from Matt Strahm. Then in the third inning, Strahm’s inside pitch hit Carroll once again. The D-Backs manager, Torey Lovullo, was having none of it and stormed to the field. What followed was something that actually happens often in baseball but still makes for a memorable game.

Injuries are a common occurrence and an unfortunate side effect of playing a sport as a professional. They range from minor to major but they’re never easy to watch. Torey Lovullo, who has been managing the D-Backs since 2017, had some choice words to say after Carroll was hit for the second time in three innings. He stormed out of the dugout to speak to home plate umpire Vic Carapazza and Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto also joined them.

It wasn’t long before Lovullo’s actions got him ejected but he continued speaking animatedly to Carapazza and Realmuto. The situation escalated as people from the D-Backs dugout tried to hold Lovullo back. Before long, the benches cleared on both teams’ sides as the Phillies and the D-Backs stormed the field.

The crowds started cheering for both teams demanding justice as the dugout and the bullpen cleared. However, Lovullo and Realmuto were at the center of the crowd with Carapazza trying to calm down both. As both teams crowded around, the situation didn’t actually come to fisticuffs and the D-Backs manager then proceeded to exit the field.
Baseball Twitter was itching for a fight
While most situations where benches clear don’t usually end in all-out brawls, baseball fans love to see the drama. The D-Backs rallied to win against the Phillies and emerged victorious, 9-8. It was their 6th straight win. This was perhaps enough of a comeback for them but fans wanted more.

Some sympathized with the players who ran out of the bullpen for nothing.
