In fact, the New York Yankees legend was close to giving up on his dream early in his career. A $150 million worth businessman recently talked about an incident that Jeter revealed in his docuseries, The Captain. The legendary shortstop was one call away from giving up on his dream.

Many people know that Derek Jeter always wanted to be a shortstop and play for the New York Yankees. But what people may not know is that he almost gave up on that dream after getting drafted. $150 million worth Patrick Bet-David revealed Jeter was close to giving up on his dream. He referred to an episode of “The Captain”, a docuseries on Jeter available on ESPN+. Jeter was struggling after getting drafted when his mother asked if he wanted to come home. The legendary shortstop may have gone home, if not for his father, who encouraged him to stay.

In a Twitter video, Bet-David says, “There’s a scene in this documentary where Derek Jeter is drafted by the Yankees. His dream becomes a reality. He always wanted to be a shortstop for them cause his dad was a shortstop. But he’s not going well. He’s making errors, and he makes a phone call to his house. Mom’s talking to Derek and mom says, son why don’t you just come home? The father said when I heard my wife saying this to Jeter, he says I told her don’t tell him that. He can’t know that’s an option.”
