Apart from being a brilliant ballplayer, Derek Jeter is also an incredible human being. Having played for arguably the biggest MLB franchise, Jeter has always been someone who remains down-to-earth.

A player par excellence, Jeter was also an exceptional leader in the ballparks. There were so many such reasons why MLB fans made him the crowd favorite. The former Yankees captain was so good that even then-US President Barack Obama could not control himself but praise Derek Jeter.

Back in 2016, when Jeter was already a retired athlete, and Obama was serving his last year as President of the US, the two sat for an interview. While talking about his career and post-retirement life, Jeter said he is living the best possible life.

Considering the legendary career of Derek Jeter, Obama did not shy away from praising the Yankees legend for his remarkable career. Obama jokingly even asked Jeter to pitch while he would play catcher after his retirement.
“Listen, you are pitching and I am catching… Because that is my intention as well. I am going to catch on some sleep… Derek, you are somebody who now has some experience and hanging up the cleats…”

“I am about to retire. I am not quite as young as you, but still, relatively young… It was a charmed career and well-deserved,” Obama said.
