Aaron Boone has seen a rollercoaster ride in MLB as manager of the New York Yankees. Fingers have been pointed at him and his failure to lead the team to the championship. For fans, seven years is enough to get settled in and lead the team to victory. However, while the Yankee fans may feel this way, the owner of the team, Hal Steinbrenner, doesn’t feel as such.

The franchise had already locked in Boone for another year by exercising their one-year club option. So clearly, they value him. Moreover, Hal Steinbrenner was interviewed by YES Network’s Meredith Markovitz recently. And well, there he revealed many of the Yankee plans for the season along with the future of Boone.

And it seems like Boone is definitely going to get an extension with the team. Steinbrenner mentioned that long-term extensions are on the horizon. Though he said that right now, the roster is where their main focus lies, they are going to discuss Aaron Boone and his future at the Bronx this time around.

“I have always thought Aaron Boone was a very good manager, and that’s his reputation in the industry,” Steinbrenner mentioned. “We will be talking with him in the days and weeks to come. Obviously, we are trying to hit the priorities right now, which is the roster itself. But there will be conversations about potentially staying longer than that,” said Hal Steinbrenner.

Steinbrenner didn’t mention any specifics as to when an extension will be signed; however, his cues definitely say soon. And well, given that the New York Yankees made it to the World Series for the first time in 15 years under Boone’s tenure, it makes sense. Aaron Boone has also led the team to six postseasons. Although the 2023 miss in the playoffs will ring heavy in his most disastrous seasons.

While Hal Steinbrenner is gearing up to lock in Aaron Boone for longer, fans are not ready. They aren’t up for not just Boone but also Cashman to remain in the team any longer. So, this update has not sat well with them.

Fans not thrilled with Aaron Boone getting an extension

One user simply stated, Oh god, stop! And even though abrupt and short, it highlights the sentiments of several Yankee fans—frustrations. The Bronx wants a championship win, and they want it soon. Now sure, Aaron Boone has led the Yankees to the postseason over his tenure more times than not. He even led them to the World Series. But at the end of the day, they still don’t have a win from the last time, which was 2009. Fans want change, so there is change.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Boone the right man to lead the Yankees, or is it time for fresh leadership?

Have an interesting take?

Frustrated one person commented that the Yankees would never end up winning with Boone. It’s a statement not by fans only but by MLB insiders too. New York Post columnist Joel Sherman isn’t convinced that Aaron Boone deserves a long deal yet. “The Yankees only picked up Boone’s option after last year’s World Series appearance. Is he really going to get another three- or four-year deal without a championship?” So it’s not really surprising this sentiment among the fans.

Simple No! Yes, a fan simply doesn’t want Boone in New York, no questions asked. And well, for Boone, this is the final season of his second four-year contract. For him, this is a make-or-break year. He also has the huge challenge of filling up the gap Juan Soto left this season. Even for him, had the season last gone well, an extension would have been far easier to take. During Boone’s tenure, he led the Yankees to a 1032-603 record, a .584 winning percentage. That ranks fourth among Amazon managers in the Live Ball Era, but in franchise history, it places him only sixth. Plus, he still has a tick—no championship win.

An angry fan just wants the team to close its door and be done. Well, he wouldn’t want this really. However, right now things are different from what they were in the past. George Steinbrenner’s era and way of running the franchise were more cut-throat. He used to fire managers on a whim. Hal Steinbrenner is more patient and understanding. He also is close to Boone and GM Cashman; hence, he is much milder.

Sell it to the Los Angeles Dodgers is what one fan suggested. And it seems like the sting of the World Series is still hurting the fans. And why wouldn’t it? The Yankees, who were so strong, absolutely got crushed by the Dodgers. Silly mistakes, routine things errored—they were a mess. How can anyone forget Game 5 of the World Series? Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Mookie Betts recently revealed they were shocked looking at the repeated mistakes, and they took full advantage.

Cashman and Boone are a team many fans don’t prefer. And Yanee fans are sensitive right now. They lost the WS, they lost their star player Juan Soto, and also the crown of New York. Well, even though that’s debatable. The Mets were able to clinch the gem of the season, despite all the odds. So they aren’t weak. Plus, the Yankees got snatched off their evil empire tag. The Dodgers, now with their star power, are known as that.
