The blows keep coming for the Oakland Athletics. Just when the A’s fans saw the light at the end of the tunnel, their hopes of stopping the move to Vegas came crashing down. Most recently, in another attempt to stop the move, the A’s fans made an alliance with the former mayors and current mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan. Together, they sent out a letter to the MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred citing to free San Jose from the San Francisco Giants’ control of legally barring the city from hosting a team. Mahan seemed confident enough with this move. It is because after getting it approved, the A’s would not have to move as far as Vegas.?

Unfortunately for the A’s, their dreams shattered into pieces. As days after the Nevada Government approved public funding for the A’s, Manfred brutally slammed the mayors for their attempt to relocate to San Jose. Notably, it is a major setback for the Athletics as they continue to protest against the move.?

The announcement of the move to Vegas had come weeks after the news broke out of a family of possums living in the Oakland Coliseum. Shortly after the announcement, Oakland fans started to protest and even filled up the Coliseum with over 27,000 fans as a part of the?“Reverse Boycott.”?Since then, the fans have been saying that the reason behind the team’s poor performance or the ballpark’s inferior conditions isn’t because of them. According to them, it’s only because of the management, i.e., A’s owner John Fisher. Moreover, another attempt to stop the relocation took a devastating hit, with Manfred declining the Mayors’ plea.?

Manfred, in a curt response, shut down the Mayors’ request. While the MLB Commissioner thanked San Jose for their interest in the team, he also said that nothing could be done at this point because of the complicated relocation process of the A’s. In his words,?“At least until that process is complete, we are not in a position to take any other actions with respect to the territories in Northern California or to consider the possibility of expansion.”?

In response to Manfred’s letter, San Jose’s mayor Matt Mahan said he respects the Commissioner’s decision. But he and his group will keep trying to get the territorial rights lifted from the city. At this point, only the future will tell what lies ahead for the Oakland Athletics.?

How are the Athletics doing this season?

The team with 21 wins and 60 losses is by far having one of the worst seasons in MLB history. But recently, things took a turn for them. It’s because they won over the New York Yankees. As they won, they gave the fans a boost as they continued to protest to stop the move.

Meanwhile, they are once again on their way to breaking a record that any team might not want to break. Until now, they have put 43 different players on the roster in the 80 games they played. The record for the single season is of Chicago Cubs for 69 players. Last year the A’s reached 64, but they might break the Cubs record this year.?
