The Oakland Athletics have had a poor MLB seasonal campaign this year. Understandably, the Athletics fans got largely disappointed over their team’s performances. Recently, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred made a strange verdict over the team’s future. Consequently, fans followed up with their opinions, getting into a debate over the statement.

The Athletics have nine World Series championships to their credit. They have been playing their home games at the Oakland Coliseum since 1968. Also known as the Ring Central Coliseum, the stadium is a multi-purpose facility with the highest seating capacity. The Coliseum also hosted NFL games until 2019.

Off-late, a lot has gone wrong for the Athletics as a team. They have become a mere pushover for the opponents. Moreover, their stadium often gets negative ratings from critics. Therefore, the Athletics administration has recently decided to move the team out of the Coliseum and switch bases.

A new MLB ground awaits the Oakland Athletics

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred recently revealed a verdict over the Athletics’ stay at the Coliseum. Manfred mentioned the Athletics authorities’ decision to switch the franchise’s home to Las Vegas. The Athletics fans in Oakland are seemingly upset over losing their team. However, some welcomed the move with open hands.

Fox Sports network shared the news on their Twitter account quoting, “MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred says that the Oakland Athletics will likely to move to Las Vegas.”

A fan reacted by quoting, “The ‘Rooted in Oakland’ marketing campaign didn’t last long.”

While another fan wrote, “Just feel terrible for Oakland. What will the city even feel like without a single sports team? Always thought they loved their team if their team was decent.”

A few more of the mixed reactions to have followed through:

Whereas underlining a fact, a fan wrote, “Vegas is taking it all.”

Therefore, as generally is the case, the variety among the public opinions clearly got noticed.

However, one common question on everybody’s mind is whether Oakland Athletics will retain its name.

How did the Athletics’ seasonal campaign go?

The Athletics had one of their worst MLB tours this year. Having a horrific 60-102 win-loss clearly made them lose out on playoff contention. Their last postseason entry was in 2020. However, they last won a World Series championship a long way back in 1989. So it is a matter to anticipate whether a change in the team’s base will help change their fortunes.
