2023 for the Oakland Athletics has been a total disaster. And literally, nothing is working out for them. And nothing, in this case, isn?t even an exaggeration. With barely any wins on the table, the Athletics are failing in the ballpark. As a result, they aren’t being able to fill their stadiums. And on the other end, even stadium negotiations in Las Vegas aren’t going as planned.
Earlier in April, the A’s signed an agreement with Las Vegas announcing a $1.5 billion ballpark for over 35,000 people spanning 49 acres. Now, however, lawmakers in Nevada are playing hardball, and not agreeing to provide the amount of funding the A’s would need.

As reported by Fox5Vegas, Nevada doesn’t plan on going higher than $175 million for financing the stadium. However, the amount required by the A’s surpasses $395 million.
HARDBALL ⚾️ ON STADIUM DEAL:
Nevada lawmakers at the table will not go higher than $175 million for financing, per an official, leaving a $220 million gap outside Clark County bonds for the $395 million ask. There are doubts whether the A’s will fill that gap. @FOX5Vegas— Jaclyn Schultz (@JaclynFOX5Vegas) May 22, 2023
As mentioned by Jaclyn Shultz of Fox5 Vegas, “Nevada lawmakers at the table will not go higher than $175 million for financing, per an official, leaving a $220 million gap outside Clark County bonds for the $395 million ask. There are doubts whether the A?s will fill that gap.”
Some fans were happy to read this news, as they still want the Athletics to stay in Oakland. However, at the same time, others expressed their discontent toward the Oakland Athletics’ ownership and hoped that he would eventually sell the team.
This is how fans reacted to the news:

A’s belong in Oakland. After the stadium is settled, we all need to band together and bully Fisher into selling.

Keep the A’s in Oakland, and get Fisher out. @MLB Give Las Vegas an expansion team.
3 problems solved just like that.

I don’t want to pay taxes on a sub par product. No thanks.

The gap, which is now over $220 million, would need to be filled by the Athletics, who weren’t even ready to invest the deficit in Oakland. According to Jaclyn Shultz, the A’s filling the remaining is going to be difficult.
