Talking about the same, a former Yankees pitcher Jeff Nelson and Jeter’s teammate opened up about the mindset of pitchers to face the Yankees captain from the plate. He said pitchers took him for granted as Jeter will not be a threat to them. But deep inside, Nelson knew what kind of monster Jeter was on his day.

Was Derek Jeter no threat to the pitchers?

As earlier mentioned, Jeter never believed in personal glories. He would do anything for his team. Many did not consider him a good hitter. But whenever the Yankees needed him the most, Jeter always delivered for his team. Considering his clutch hitting ability, fans also gave him the nickname ‘Captain Clutch.’

Jeff Nelson, a former Yankees pitcher, also played for three more MLB franchises. He played only six years for the Pinstripes, but Nelson got to know the actual strength of Jeter.

Per a tweet, Nelson revealed he had to convince his teammates that Derek Jeter is a dangerous hitter because no pitcher would take Jeter as a serious threat from the plate.

“Everyone took it for granted. Not that they were relaxed about pitching against him. But they’d say, ‘Oh, well, this is not one of the guys that we’re worried about,” Jeff Nelson said in ‘The Captain’.

Derek Jeter has one of the most decorated careers in Major League Baseball. With five World Series titles and an MLB Hall of the Fame induction, Derek Jeter is in the same company as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and a few MLB legends.
