The Baltimore Orioles’ 2025 season has been marked by unexpected struggles, leaving fans questioning the team’s performance despite high expectations. Currently holding a 10-16 record, the Orioles are battling to stay out of last place in the AL East, a division they were projected to contend in. However, despite these challenges, the Orioles are not without hope. Well, their manager thinks so.

While both the Orioles and Yankees have faced significant injury challenges in the 2025 season, the Yankees have managed to maintain a strong position in the standings, currently leading the AL East, while the Orioles are struggling at the bottom. What’s more, the Orioles’ 24–2 loss to the Reds stands as one of the most lopsided defeats in franchise history. While this humbling defeat highlighted systemic issues that have plagued the team, the Orioles’ manager, Brandon Hyde, is asking the fans not to panic.

I don’t sense any panic, or nobody’s overly snapping or anything like that. Everyone’s getting along fine. We’re losing tough games right now, and that can wear on you a little bit. Today was a really, really tough day, and we’ve gotta bounce back.

Well, there are a few games that might be considered as closed ones for the Orioles. The game against the Blue Jays (6-7), the Nationals (3-4), and the Tigers (3-4) are the closest defeats for the Orioles this year. However, the 24-2 loss against the Reds, the 8-2 loss against the Royals, and the 15-5 loss against the Pirates are nothing but appalling. We are clueless about which close games in recent times Hyde is talking about.

This was supposed to be the year everyone circled on the calendar as the breakout season for the Orioles’ young core. The combination of emerging stars like Gunnar Henderson (.218) and Adley Rutschman (.209), with Jackson Holliday debuting, had fans and analysts buzzing about a potential powerhouse in the making. However, now it feels like all that promise has hit a wall of bad timing, misfortune, and underperformance, making this stretch particularly frustrating for a fanbase that waited years for this window.

So, while Hyde is asking not to panic, it sounds like coach-speak from a fan’s perspective. It doesn’t match the on-field product, especially after watching position players pitch and errors pile up. Enough to make the fans go triggered.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Brandon Hyde's optimism misplaced, or can the Orioles still turn this season around?

Fans are left unimpressed with the Orioles

This season, the Orioles have done a little to impress the fans, except for the hope of doing better. Hence, this time, the optimistic words by Hyde seem not to be working among the fans.

Fans are clueless about what hope Hyde is selling and are finding no sense of reality, as seen by this fan’s comment, “No sense of reality. Clueless.” The 2-6 loss against the Tigers yesterday was no way a close game. Moreover, Hyde’s confidence about everyone getting along fine does not match with Charlie Morton’s figure. The Tigers’ slugger, Riley Greene’s 3-run homer off Morton, reflected a different picture. Hence, no reality in what Hyde is saying.

You’re gonna be 10-17 after tomorrow.” The Orioles’ fans seem to be confident about their team’s losses over the wins. Currently, they are standing at 10-16, and by the next game against the Tigers, it will be 10-17! Wednesday’s 4-3 loss against the Nationals was a gut punch. 1-for-12 with RISP: That number tells the whole story. The Orioles had more than enough opportunities to break the game open, but the bats just couldn’t deliver when it mattered. Why would a fan keep hope on this lineup?

Is the current performance of the Orioles the new normal? One user thinks so, “Maybe someone should panic. Maybe someone should snap. Maybe they shouldn’t be getting along playing like this.” For starters, the Orioles’ offensive struggles have been a significant concern in the 2025 season. The most consistent names in the batting lineup, like Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman, have an average below .250. That sums up the concern of fans about how things are going with the team currently.

Remember what Hyde had said after the Orioles’ loss against the Nationals on Wednesday? “I’m just really happy with our effort.” This time, after losing against the Pirates, he seemed to repeat the same hope. “I don’t sense any panic.” This is what makes one user say, “he’s been saying this for weeks now.” It’s time to offer a better on-field product over offering hope for Hyde and the team.

While it will not work ridiculing the team, it’s time for some radical changes in place. One user is asking to make the required changes for a better outcome: “Make a change and do it now before the season is lost. It is stupid to do the same thing over and over again with the same results.” For the Orioles to turn things around and start living up to the potential of their young core, they’ll need a multi-pronged approach—some of it strategic, some of it psychological, and some possibly even front-office driven. Maybe it’s time to make way for Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser to lead the hitting when the established guys are failing to make the scoreboard run.

The talent is still there—the turnaround is very possible. But they need urgency, accountability, and a bit of a jolt. Do you think it will be possible for the Orioles?
