Trevor Bauer, the player whose story once was destined for greatness, took an unexpected turn. A Cy Young awardee, a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and a future that seemed promising. But then suddenly everything came to a halt, and the answer lies in a series of events that ultimately led to an MLB ban for 324 games! It all started in 2021 when he was accused of assault.
The matter was violating the league’s policies, and an immediate ban of 324 games (the longest ever) was issued by the MLB. While this suspension was eventually reduced to 194 games, including time served, the damage had been done for Trevor Bauer. The Dodgers released him before the 2023 season, marking a dramatic end to his tenure with the team. As a result, he turned to Japan and played there professionally for a year. Fast forward to today; now, the majority of Bauer’s legal issues are over, and he wants a return ticket to MLB.

In a recent interview, he expressed his desire to make a comeback to the league: “Anyone that’s willing to sit down with me and listen: I’d like to play the second half of my career in a better way than I played the first half.” “I’d like to be an example that you can make mistakes, recognize them, adjust, and then be better in the future,” Bauer emphasized, noting the importance of self-reflection and saying, “I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on the last two and a half years. There’s a lot of things I would like to do better, a lot of severed and damaged relationships I’d like to repair.”
However, it seems he will have to spend his time away from MLB again, as he has signed a contract with the DeNA BayStars, a Japanese league team with whom he had a brief stint in 2023. No MLB currently wants Trevor, maybe because of the public backlash that comes with signing him. Despite his willingness to take a significant pay cut, offering to sign for the major league minimum salary, Bauer has yet to receive any offers from MLB teams.
“I have served my time,” he said, adding, “Do I not deserve an opportunity to come back?” Bauer’s plea for a second chance highlights his determination to prove his growth and readiness to contribute. Whether or not an opportunity arises, only time will tell.
Trevor Bauer eyes an MLB return with the Mets.
After a year in Japan following a 194-game suspension, Trevor Bauer is eager to return to Major League Baseball, with the New York Mets emerging as a favorable and potential landing spot. The talented right-handed pitcher has expressed his admiration for the team, having nearly signed with them in 2021 before the Los Angeles Dodgers bagged him. “The Mets have a great thing going on,” he said, acknowledging the team’s culture. Bauer even spoke highly of current Mets players like Francisco Lindor and the city’s passionate fan base.

Who knows, the deal might be on the cards, given Trevor’s stats in Japan were impressive and no team would like to overlook them. With a 2.76 ERA and 130 strikeouts in just over 130 innings, proving that his skill hasn’t diminished during his time off MLB lights. He is eager to perform and prove his worth to whichever team shows faith in him. “I’m going to perform on the field. I’m in great shape, I’m better now than I ever have been in my career. I have no doubt that I’ll perform well on the field.” If this move potentially takes place, the addition of Bauer could provide a powerful boost to the pitching department of the Mets.
With an impressive season in Japan and the lessons learned from his past, Bauer is ready to prove himself once again in the majors. Whether the Mets are willing to give him that chance remains to be seen.
