The Boston Red Sox is a team synonymous with a passionate fanbase. Their fans who used to cheer for Boston’s championship glory find themselves expressing great discontentment. After two consecutive last-place finishes in the American League East and a slow start to the 2024 season, Red Sox fans are expressing their frustration with ownership, pointing to yet another (in)action on their part.

First things first, the Red Sox haven’t reached the playoffs since their 2018 World Series win. This draught in of success, following a tenure of sustained competitiveness under previous ownership structures, has left fans yearning for a return to glory. In the midst of this, the team was struck by the loss of Larry Lucchino on April 2nd. But sadly his partners couldn’t make it to his private funeral. And fans are fuming.

A recent report by Sean McAdam on Twitter came up which strained the relationship between fans and ownership to a grave level. Tyler Milliken put up a tweet that read, “According to @Sean_McAdam, John Henry and Tom Werner didn’t attend Larry Lucchino’s private funeral.”

The tweet further elaborated the relationship of Larry Lucchino and Boston Red Sox. He had been the longtime partner of John Henry and Tom Werner (Fenway Sports Group ownership). He also served as president and CEO during three World Series victories. Clearly, his role was way extremely instrumental in the renovation of Fenway Park as well. His passing was a blow to the whole team.

However, “it would have been nice for them (Boston Red Sox ownership) to pay their respects… At least Linda Pizzuti Henry had the grace and decency to attend.” What riled the fans up even more was that “John and Tom were on the field at Fenway 48 hours earlier.”

Fans’ Comment Flurry Slam the Ownership

Fans immediate took to social media to express their unhinged thoughts.

One fan said, “No Class”.

Another fan expressed that this was “Not a great look”

More blatant comments showed up on the comments section. “Disappointing🙏🙏”

Fans also did not hold back their sarcasm.
