Few things in life are constant – taxes, death, and the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees bantering each other. After all, it is the sport’s greatest rivalry. Every season, the fans look forward to these two teams battling it out on the baseball diamond.

So what about the players? Well, if we go by David Ortiz and Derek Jeter the banter never really ends.

Being part of the 2004 ALCS, perhaps the most iconic moment in this rivalry they know firsthand how hot the atmosphere gets. So it’s only natural that Ortiz found a way to troll Derek Jeter years after their series.

“You Did”: Ortiz leaves Derek Jeter Speechless

Derek Jeter was discussing how the Houston Astros can come back even after going 2-0 down. For this, he reminded people of the 2004 ALCS where he and the Yankees had a 3-0 lead and ended up losing that series.

So it happened that, that part of the panel was David Ortiz – MVP of the Boston Red Sox that beat the Yankees in that series. Then Ortiz quipped hilariously –

“You did?”

Even Derek Jeter could not help but laugh at this amazing banter. Revealing that behind all the banter lies immense respect for each other.

This is not the first time that Ortiz has trolled Jeter. Earlier this year he gifted a Red Sox Jersey to Derek Jeter. Even though they were once the fiercest of rivals now they’re an exciting Punditry duo.

The Red Sox – Yankees rivalry though? It’s still as heated as ever. Even though the teams themselves aren’t as strong as they once were with neither of them making it to the 2023 Playoffs, a first since 1993! Their fans may not be happy but the baseball fans are enjoying the chemistry between these two beloved legends of the game.

Apart from the banter, David Ortiz once revealed that he had photos of Jeter all around his house because he’s that special to him. Similarly, when Ortiz retired Derek Jeter wrote him a farewell note where he said how it was an “absolute pleasure” to play against him.
