With the ongoing MLB off-season, the teams have started preparing for the upcoming season. Multiple teams have contacted their current players under arbitration to sign them before they become free agents. However, the Cincinnati Reds have planned otherwise, and have non-tendered one of their players, making him a free agent.

When a player is non-tendered, it ends the player’s contract extension chances. Given the nature, it is not a likable end, but with this, the opportunity to experience the market comes in. However, it is not always easy to say goodbye even then, and outfielder Nick Senzel is currently experiencing the same.

Notably, Senzel debuted for the Reds in 2019 after signing a contract with them in 2016 as a second-overall pick. Since then, he played five seasons, making 379 appearances. The 28-year-old scored 175 runs during this period at 0.239 and an OPS of 0.671.

It was a decent contribution from Senzel. However, he failed to repeat the performance from his debut season in 2019. The following stats from 2019 season are a proof. He averaged 0.256 with 55 runs at an OPS of 0.742 and WAR of 0.6. But after that, everything changed for him. Though the third baseman improved stats this season, was not enough for him to retain his place in the team.

With the Reds looking for changes to have a better 2024 season, Senzel was not in the plans. Now, he has to find a team in the market to continue his MLB journey. But from the reaction and wishes, it is visible that fans will miss him in Cincinnati.
