Kansas City’s future in sports looks bright. While Patrick Mahomes has done wonders for the Chiefs, baseball fans are hoping for something similar from Bobby Witt Jr. After their second World Series victory in 2015, the Kansas City Royals have fallen somewhat into decline. But there’s hope of a baseball revival yet as the team focuses on building a new stadium, backed by none other than Mahomes.
And it’s always a plus point when there is a talent like Bobby Witt Jr. to keep the MLB world interested in Kansas City. Challenging Elly De La Cruz for his title of ‘Fastest Man Alive’, the shortstop is having a fantastic breakout season. In addition to his excellent defensive abilities in the infield, the 23-year-old continues to be a powerful presence behind the bat. Is it any wonder even the 2x Super Bowl champ is impressed?

Pat Mahomes Sr. is a former MLB pitcher with a respectable career. But his son chose to go with a different kind of ball and is now making history as one of the greatest quarterbacks the NFL has seen. However, that doesn’t mean Patrick Mahomes II can’t have a little fun with baseball every now and then.

On August 16th, hitting coach Trey Hannam posted a clip of the Royals shortstop practicing his swing while trying to build up his bat speed. The video shows the meter calculating it at 141 mph, which Hannam aptly points out in his caption, “Bobby Witt Jr. building up bat speed with a super light skinny bat • Trains at famous @bobbystroupe gym along side Mahomes. Training to be better athletes • 141mph is insane speed”
Poking fun at the moment, Mahomes reposted the tweet, writing he could easily one-up the shortstop. “I think i can get 142mph… 🤣 @BwittJr” And given the QB’s incredible throwing arm, who knows, he could probably do it too.

On August 3rd, when the Royals were up against the New York Mets, fans were treated to another great play by Witt. In the fifth inning, Michael Massey made a spectacular dive to catch a grounder by Omar Narváez, quickly throwing it to Witt. The Royals had already gotten one out but thanks to their shortstop’s incredible throw, it turned into a double play.
While Massey’s play was no doubt instrumental in getting the out, even he had praise for Witt. When asked if he had ever seen any such similar arm plays before, the second baseman only had one name to utter, “Patrick Mahomes. He’s incredible.”
