The upcoming Super Bowl LVII is anticipated to be one of the most riveting games in recent history. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are expected to have a close game. For the first time, both teams are headed into Super Bowl with the same number of points compiled in the regular season as well as the postseason. And for what is shaping up to be a much-awaited game, retired Yankee Alex Rodriguez is choosing sides.

The Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr. has had a meteoric rise to fame ever since he joined the NFL in 2017. With a history in baseball, Mahomes has known Rodriguez for most of his life. After all, Mahomes Sr. and the former shortstop were teammates at the Texas Rangers. But when asked who Rodriguez was rooting for in the upcoming game, he had a surprising answer.

Mahomes Jr. and Rodriguez go way back. The quarterback was a baseball player before he chose to focus solely on football, and the former Yankee used to give Mahomes Jr. hitting tips. So it would not be surprising that one would expect A-Rod to root for the Chiefs. But at the recent WM Phoenix Open held by the PGA, the 47-year-old was asked whose side he was on.

The interviewer put forward the question, “We gotta ask. Super Bowl’s coming up. Eagles, Chiefs, who you taking and why?” And Rodriguez answered, “Ooh man, it’s hard to go against my boy Patrick Mahomes. But Elena from my office is a big Birds fan. So I’m gonna give Eagles, by a touchdown. Six and a half. Big bets, big bets.”

What a letdown!

The former Yankee has become famous for his business acumen. Post-retirement, Rodriguez has taken to expanding his business empire as far as it will go. With his investment firm A-Rod Corp scaling up rapidly, the retired baseballer is also expending energy on his NBA team, Minnesota Timberwolves, which he owns partly. But even before he stopped earning regularly from his time on the diamond, Rodriguez has always had a finance-oriented mind.

In addition to baseball, Rodriguez has also taken a liking to golf. As seen at the WM Phoenix Open, the 47-year-old was swinging the club passionately. Whether he’s good at it, he’d rather not say. But when another reporter asked him, “Would you give up all your investments if you never had a 3-putt again?” A-Rod had a clear-cut answer, “No,” even if he laughed afterward.
