Derek Jeter played the entirety of his career with the New York Yankees. And despite playing for one of the biggest sports franchises, Jeter never even came close to any controversies or scandals. Instead, he effortlessly handled the pressure that came with playing for such a big team and delivered his very best every time he donned the Pinstripes.
However, this was not always the case for The Captain. In a recent interview, Derek Jeter recalled the struggles he faced early in his career and how he dealt with them.

For those unversed, the Yankees legend recently sat for an interview with the NFL stalwart Eli Manning and talked about his life before and after retirement.
Derek Jeter opened up on his struggles as a young Yankee
In a recent appearance on the Eli Manning Show, Jeter talked about his struggles as a rookie and the person who helped him solve them. The former Yankee shortstop talked about how difficult it was to be a young athlete playing in New York and the pressure that fans put on you.
On the show Jeter said, “You know, when you’re in New York, it’s a tough town to play in. ‘Cause the expectation levels are so high. And I don’t care where you come from, it’s an adjustment period. And I’ve been where you were. You know, I came up and struggled. Everyone struggles here.”
Jeter went on to say that one player may not have gone through the same troubles that another player went through. And that it can be difficult to find someone who understands what you are going through as a player. But he said that at the time, he could talk to Darryl Strawberry. And it helped him get past his difficulties.

This, in tandem with his upbringing, helped Jeter get used to the league and focus on being the best player he could be. Notably, Jeter won 5 World Series titles and many other accolades during his career with the Yankees.
Jeter always wanted to play his entire career with the Yankees
After being drafted by the New York Yankees, Jeter wanted to play his entire career with the team. Even during his free agency, the Yankees legend recalls telling the team that he was going to stay. And that it may not have been the best negotiation tactic at the time.
