What is more remarkable about Jeter’s legacy is that, despite being a baseball player; he received love and admiration from every nook and corner of the sporting world. Not long, but a couple of years after his retirement, 2-time Super Bowl champ and NFL legend Peyton Manning won Jeter’s heart when he sent a heartfelt letter to the Yankees icon in 2016.

When Peyton Manning asked Derek Jeter to go to Red Lobster

Back in 2016, NFL legend and former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning sent handwritten letters to Derek Jeter, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, and a few others. Although it was a commercial for Gatorade, Manning’s words touched Jeter’s heart.

While writing to Jeter, Manning congratulated him on his retirement and jokingly offered him to go to Red Lobster with a Groupon. Notably, Manning had just announced his retirement when this commercial came up.

“Dear DJ, congrats on your outstanding career. You will forever have my respect,” Manning wrote. “If you are ever in my neck of the woods, I would love to sit down for dinner. I have a Groupon for Red Lobster where $40 gets you $80 worth the scampi. Let me know, as these things expire.”

Replying to the same, the Yankees legend joked about how Manning offered him to go to Red Lobster using a Groupon.

“He has always been cheap,” said Derek Jeter.

Peyton Manning has always been a fanboy of Jeter

Per “the Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter,” a book based on Jeter’s life, when Peyton Manning was no longer an NFL star; he had a fan moment with Derek Jeter in 1998. Jeter was at the peak of his baseball career while Manning was still making his way into the NFL.

In 1998, when Jeter attended a Michael Jordan game, a young Manning introduced himself to the Yankees star and praised him for his game. “Derek, I’m Peyton Manning. You’re having some career,” said a young Manning.
