Former politician Ron Paul once said that the founding fathers of the U.S. never intended for citizens to pay such monumental taxes. When one is an earning individual in this world, paying one’s dues is inescapable. From common citizens to stars and celebrities, death and taxes really are certain. And former MLB legend Derek Jeter learned this the hard way.
The retired athlete is one of the biggest names in baseball because of his skills on the diamond. And that talent meant a big paycheck when it came to playing professionally. Jeter has spent his big bills in various ways over the years, but perhaps one of his proudest achievements was the construction of his Florida house, which the NFL legend Tom Brady rented once. The former Yankee built a colossal mansion that finished construction in 2012, and his taxes quadrupled.

Derek Jeter paid 4x taxes from what he paid before for his Tampa Bay house
The former Yankees captain is famous for his unique sense of fashion and style when it comes to clothing. But apparently, that sense extends to interior decoration as well. Because Jeter’s house in Tampa Bay is famous for its beauty and architecture, which is reportedly Captain Clutch’s dream home. But beauty comes at a price, as Jeter found out when he had to pay $265,000 in tax bills.
The gigantic house with seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and a waterfront was only completed in 2012. Before that, the land was relatively vacant. “The reason for the change is that in 2011 the property was not complete,” said a county clerk. “The tax assessment was based on vacant land.” Luxury features like the pool, the spa, the dock, etc., were also taken into account along with the English-style manor house.

St. Jetersburg is also famous because Tom Brady once rented it
Locals jokingly named the former captain’s massive mansion ‘St. Jetersburg’ and the name has stuck. The palatial place is built over two plots, with every comfort imaginable for humans. When Jeter decided to move out of the house a few years later, the list of buyers and renters was long.
Among them was NFL superstar Tom Brady, who rented the house with his family in 2020. Brady had just signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the house’s proximity to Raymond James Stadium didn’t hurt, either. However, his stay at the Florida house didn’t last long and, after some complaints, the Brady family moved on.
