There’s no easy way to say it. The Colorado Rockies are not the strongest team in the league. They continually rank at the bottom of the NL West and have famously never won a World Series. They’ve only made it to the playoffs five times since they were formed in 1991. But Deion Sanders wants to bring a change.
Is the root cause of the problem that the team needs a sound farm system to cultivate? While there’s no stopping scouts from scouring baseball youth from all over the country, they will also certainly take a look at state colleges. Colorado Boulder has yet to see a baseball team ever since theirs was discontinued in 1980 due to budget cuts. But Coach Prime is confident that he can bring a massive change.

‘Prime Time’ has cooked up a storm with Colorado Boulder’s Buffaloes, leading them to their first victory of the season in their very first game. It was a special win because it came against last season’s runner-ups, TCU’s Horned Frogs. Many were skeptical of Sanders joining the football team as a coach but he’s already proving that he did learn a thing or two from his time in the NFL.
Colorado certainly wanted him in their corner. While the university didn’t have enough funds to cover the retired defensive back’s $29.5 million salary, fans of the Buffaloes raised a record $28 million in donations. And he’s certain to prove that he’s worth every penny. In fact, Coach Prime is so confident in his football coaching skills that he believes he can raise enough money to fund a whole new baseball team.
“Rick [George] and I talked about this, like that’s my dream. I want to be so dominant here, I mean we’re going to be so dominant, that we’re going to pack the stadium, we’re going to sell out all our apparel. We’re gonna do this, we’re going to be on television,” Sanders recently commented on his radio show. “We going to command so much revenue for this university that we’re going to have a baseball team. That’s the dream,” he added.

Is the School’s Advancement Analogous to the Rockies’ Progress?
For now, the University of Colorado Boulder is the only Pac-12 school in its conference to not boast a baseball team. If Sanders’ prediction comes true, it will be a huge boost to the school’s rep. It’s already seeing a rise in popularity, with more ticket sales, social media following, as well as online attention.
