New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter, during his playing career, was not only a fan-favorite but also a media’s favorite personality. Many rumors took place about the former shortstop, but he never said one word about them. They may be true or not, but Captain Clutch never lost his cool. He used to stay as far as possible from the negative news. Because he didn’t want that to take over his mind while he was on the field. The former shortstop stayed put whenever he knew there was something written about him somewhere and that not all of it was true.

He had tactics to deal with the stories that got written about him. And he talked about those tactics with the NFL Hall of Famer Eli Manning.
How did ‘biting the tongue’ help Derek Jeter?
New York City is indeed a tough place to live in. While living in it, Derek Jeter did get love from his fans and the media. But he also got criticized whenever the team lost, or he didn’t play well enough.
About biting his tongue, Jeter said that sometimes a person has to do it on a daily basis. While trying to limit the distractions, Jeter said, “If you keep adding to a story, it just becomes distraction for a long period of time.”
He went on to say, “There’s a lot of times people have stories out there you know are untrue. But if you do address it, then it just continues to grow, so yeah, I think you have to bite your tongue in those situations.”
If only Jeter had addressed every news about him, then his prestige would have been entirely different from what it is today. So it would not be wrong to say that biting his tongue worked out for the former shortstop extremely well.
