As the off-season’s eventual close is in sight, the Yankees continue their bullpen-bolstering attempts. While the bullpen already consists of potent players, two names emerge that could be the cherry on top. This offseason, some key players for which the NYY were front runners, slipped from their hands. But maybe this time, it’ll be different.
These names were never off the list, but now the New York Yankees are “emerging as potential frontrunners“. These two tenured fireballers are the ones most likely to be in the pinstripes soon. So it is going to be only one of them? Or both?

As per a tweet by Mark Feinsand, the intel is that “Hector Neris’ market is becoming active, with the Yankees and Rangers emerging as potential frontrunners to sign the reliever, per sources”. The 34-year-old was a key contributor to winning the World Series for the Houston Astros in 2022. As he declined an $8.5 million player option with Houston and went into free agency, he has infatuated the Yanks as a great addition to their pitching staff.

Neris might actually shine in the Bronx, thanks to his 2022 World Series run. His ability to meander through high-pressure situations and limelight makes him a strong option. Additionally, his potential would add to an impressive lineup, aiding Aaron Boone, manager of the Yankees with a flamethrower option of high-leverage to bag outs. Speaking of flamethrowers, there’s another option that New York is seemingly interested in.
The Yankees continue to consider a possible reunion
Andy Martino tweeted, following the intel by Mark Feinsand, that “Wandy Peralta also still a possibility for Yankees”. Talks of Peralta being a prospect were always there, but nothing materialized until now. Back in early December of 2023, Jon Heyman had shared that the Yankees were one of many teams keen on Wandy Peralta. Seeing the news resurge, could there be a possible reunion?

The 32-year-old was always a “key piece” of the Yankees’ bullpen, but with his one-year deal concluding with the club, he entered free agency. It would be interesting to see how the NYY works through the challenge of improving bullpen depth in 2024.
