It is no secret that with a disappointing 2023 season, the Yankees are expected to turn things around this year. Manager Aaron Boone’s optimism might go a long way, despite their past year marred by injuries. The Yankees’ skipper believes his team’s pitching staff in 2024 could be “really good”.
On one hand, things might look up, on the other, there are challenges presented by the Baltimore Orioles’ newest acquisition. Their ace Corbin Burnes, Boone emphasizes, has the potential to pose a threat to the Yankees. Nevertheless, they move on with the belief that a healthy rotation bolstered by key additions continues to remain advantageous.

The Yankees’ manager’s words were, “With health, I think we’re going to be really good.” He declared further “But it’s early February. We got a long way to go. I’m excited about some of the depth we’ve replenished and guys pushing up” declared.
He acknowledged that injuries significantly derailed the Yankees’ pitching last year. Key players like Frankie Montas, Carlos Rodón, and Luis Severino had to be sidelined for extended periods and hence did not deliver their full potential. This season, however, staying healthy is paramount for the club. Of course with that would come their pitching potential in full form.
The NYY skipper also highlighted the team’s efforts to replenish depth in the rotation. He particularly mentioned prospects like Will Warren, Clayton Beeter, and Chase Hampton who are nearing their MLB debuts. Moreover, he expressed confidence in pitching youths like Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez, who dropped a jaw or two last season. With these statements, he backed his optimism up also hinting that this depth creates a cushion of sorts in case of an unexpected injury.
Adding to those points, Boone identified Carlos Rodón and Nestor Cortes as key figures in the rotation’s success. He said that if they stay healthy and perform to their fullest capabilities, they can rival any pitching duo in the league. His words, “I’m excited about the winters those guys are having and where they’re at,” summed up his emotion about the two crucial pitchers.
