The New York Yankees were in high spirits right before their home opener. But tragedy has befallen the franchise. Cathy Tusiani, wife of the team’s senior vice president of partnerships Michael J. Tusiani has tragically passed away after a tree fell on top of her car during a storm. With the entire organization in deep mourning, the manager Aaron Boone has given a tribute to the departed soul. 

Michael J. Tusiani has been part of the Yankees organization for over two decades. He first worked under the late George Steinbrenner and later worked for his son Hal Steinbrenner. This two-decade journey has seen Tusiani becoming not just a valued cog in the machine but a part of the family. As a result, the entire Bronx Bombers has come in support of their veteran soldier during the toughest time of his life.

As reports of Cathy Tusiani’s demise began circulating the Yankees released a statement wherein they remembered Cathy as a “beloved” individual. “Words cannot capture the devastating impact that is being felt within the Yankees family after the sudden and tragic loss of Cathy Tusiani,” the Yankees’ statement read.

Later during his pre-series press conference, Yankees Beat writer Bryan Hoch reported that Aaron Boone got emotional. The skipper paid tribute to Cathy Tusiani and said that the Yankees “will be playing with heavy hearts today and all season for the Tusiani family.” The tearful Boone looked shaken by the sudden demise of his colleague’s wife.

Cathy Tusiani’s demise was a result of an unfortunate incident. With a storm raging on, she became a victim of a freak accident.

New York Yankees mourn the tragic accident just a mile away from Cathy’s home 

According to People, a tree fell on Cathy’s 2021 Toyota at approximately 5:30 PM on Wednesday, April 3. She was driving northbound on Route 128 in Armonk, New York. During the incident, the winds were blowing at over 50 mph. She was less than a mile away from her home when the accident took her life.

CBS News states that there were two additional reports of trees falling as a result of this storm. Still, the untimely demise of Cathy has shaken the Yankees to the core. With their home series starting today, the Bronx Bombers might have another motivation to perform well. Perhaps that could be the best tribute they can give to the beloved Cathy Tusiani.
