If life was a treasure hunt, the Chicago White Sox have just fallen into a room full of diamonds. Rarely does it happen that all stars align perfectly for a baseball team but it has happened with the ChiSox. A few days ago they looked ready to start the season with Dylan Cease because no trade offers were impressive enough. But since then, the New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole felt uneasy in his elbow and the Texas Rangers realized their rotation wasn’t strong. Suddenly, Cease has become a wanted man.

With dollar signs going around the White Sox clubhouse, the team is ready to hit the jackpot. The fact that Cease has two years of contract left is just a cherry on top. So with competition raging on for their ace, the White Sox are set to witness a great battle between the Rangers and Pinstripes.

In MLB Network’s Hot Stove, Matt Vasgersian and Al Leiter talked about the Gerrit Cole situation and its effects on Dylan Cease’s trade talks. Leiter was extremely high on Cease and called him an “ace” who would attract any team. However, the Yankees’ interest in Dylan Cease has become quite obvious due to Cole being at risk of missing a big chunk of this season. However, this is where the issue arises.

The Texas Rangers have their own pitching troubles. Their ace Jacob deGrom is set to miss the initial months of the regular season. The team also no longer has Jordan Montgomery with them so at least for the first half of the season, their rotation looks quite weak. That has pushed the Lone Stars towards Cease, the 2022 Cy Young finalist.

The issue is that while the Yankees may have just restarted discussions, the Rangers have been on the table for a lot longer. In fact, the latest reports indicate that the White Sox-Rangers connection might be a little deeper.

Are the Texas Rangers ahead of the New York Yankees for Dylan Cease?

According to The Dallas Morning News, the Rangers have been considering to knowing what it would cost to acquire Cease. To this end, the White Sox scouts have reportedly “descended in droves upon Rangers camp this week.” On the other hand, the Yankees’ huge condition could prove to be a hindrance.

The last time the Bronx Bombers were in talks with the Chi Sox, they completely rejected the Sox’s Spencer Jones advances. So while the Bombers have made it clear that Jones is untradable, the Rangers don’t have such qualms yet. In such a situation, one can see that the Lone Stars could be ahead of the Yanks.

However, one could argue that the Yankees’ progress depends on Gerrit Cole’s injury. If it’s too big – the Yankees could get desperate. And a desperate Pinstripes might be a different beast for the Rangers. But until then, the White Sox are certainly enjoying their run-in with fortune.
