Juan Soto was the New York Yankees’ big move this off-season. With the star joining the Bronx squad, captain Aaron Judge gets support in the lineup, especially with Soto bringing in much-needed lefty batting. But one area of importance requires a big addition and that is pitching. The Yankees need help in the starting rotation and bullpen as well.

Despite this, the team has dragged out their pitching acquisitions, delaying a crucial addition after missing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto. But now as the New Year nears, the Yankees will need to make a big decision.

With the New Year approaching and a deal for a pitcher seemingly stalled for the time being, the New York Yankees need to make a move. With each passing day, more pitchers are signed from the market, leaving them with fewer options. Most recently, Lucas Giolito signed with the Boston Red Sox, which may have helped the Yankees’ Jordan Montgomery chances, but their 2022 Montgomery trade may also impact the deal. But overall, the team still needs to make a move soon and secure their desired hurler in free agency.

In particular, they need to pick a perfect complimentary piece to Gerrit Cole in terms of pitching. Montgomery, a former Yankee, may provide the best fit and was crucial to the Rangers’ recent World Series success. But despite recent moves and the pitching market heating up, the Yankees look set to wait out the off-season a bit more.

There’s no certainty as to when the Bombers will get things moving, with approximately 48 hours or so until the new year. But it will leave a ripple across MLB and likely impact other teams as well. Several clubs are seemingly interested in the top pitchers left on the market, including the San Francisco Giants and even the New York Mets. But the Yankees will have their chance to pick their top choice.

Rumors and reports have pointed to Jordan Montgomery and Shota Imanaga being high on the New York Yankees’ wishlist. I believe a reunion with Montgomery is a great option with the familiar pitcher having top MLB experience. Furthermore, he has proven himself in the playoffs and can handle the clutch moments.
