They say never meet your heroes but for Anthony Volpe, the statement does not hold true. The young shortstop for the New York Yankees has had a tough rookie season. But if Derek Jeter is to be believed, it’s only natural. Playing in front of a crowd like New York never gets easier and adjustment takes time. And the Kid will get better with time and experience, says Jeter.
The chicken parm incident will forever be etched into Volpe’s career in Pinstripes for how he focused on his improvement. And while he’s still not quite like the former captain, he has shown glimpses of why he’s considered the second coming of Derek Jeter. It’s a huge honor, and it seems like at 2023’s Old Timers’ Day, the retired Yankee decided to meet his successor.

There is nothing quite as motivating as receiving words of inspiration from one’s hero. After the joyous moment of promotion to the majors came for the 22-year-old, his predecessor gave him a call to offer some advice. Volpe seems to be following it for the most part.

The New York Yankees youngster will never forget this meeting and fans will forever keep the Captain’s legacy in their hearts. It’s a testament to how much the Bronx believes in the young Volpe that they’re willing to let him carry on the Derek Jeter name.
The only thing that can surpass a phone call is a meeting in real life, which Volpe finally got the chance to have today. As the Yankees honored the 1998 World Series-winning team on their 25th anniversary, there was a meeting of the shortstops behind the scenes. And fans couldn’t be more elated to see it finally happening.
