Keep aside the firework display of the Los Angeles Dodgers and look at the New York Yankees. They are on to something. Opting for a different approach, they’re all set to make their super appearance in the Yankee Stadium. Last season, they were walking the tightrope. But perhaps 2024 will paint a different picture

Brian Cashman, who curated a careful strategy has emerged with a calculated series of moves. Not only are these designed to address key weaknesses but also to make the team regain its lost vigor after its embarrassment last year. But is that enough to propel the Yanks back into contention?

Well, at one glance, the outfield in 2023 looked bleak. To begin with, the team was constantly frustrated with Aaron Hicks’ inconsistencies. That’s when the jewel of Cashman’s offseason heist, Juan Soto, entered the scene. He’s the generational talent with a lethal bat ever ready for the team on his shoulders at any given point. This was just a start for the Yankees. Trent Grisham, a defensive power in center field, delivers the much-needed stability, while Alex Verdugo’s reliable hitting calms the formerly chaotic left field. With that, the days of defensive misadventures are no more. What about pitching stability then?

Pitching is one thing less to be anxious about. With Marcus Stroman bringing a calming presence with his veteran status, he’s a calming presence in the rotation. But a certain level of uncertainty does exist. Can Carlos Rodón and Nestor Cortes revive their 2023 heroics? Will Clarke Schmidt become the ace the Yankees envision? But manager Aaron Boone’s words, “With health, I think we’re going to be really good” makes one optimistic.

On one hand, Soto, Grisham, and Stroman grabbed the headlines. On the other, one must not underestimate the impact of the under-the-radar acquisitions. Verdugo’s hitting and defense instantly strengthened the left field. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers’ roster boasts players entering walk years. Names such as Gleyber Torres, Clay Holmes, and Jonathan Loáisiga, fueled by negotiations and the desire to prove themselves, they could be a great surprise!
