Aaron Boone backing Juan Soto—Is this loyalty or just blind faith in a struggling player?

In a 2024 MLB season that looked bleak for the Yankees, a win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday might put them on track. Indeed, in July 2024, the Pinstripes had a record of 5-16, making them the first team in the MLB season to win five out of their twenty-one games. Also, in the previous game against the Red Sox, they lost 9-7 on Friday night. However, in Sunday’s game, when the Bronx Bombers starred in defeat, Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Trent Grisham saved the day for the team.

Especially with Judge smacking the ball off Zack Kelly for a double and Soto’s humongous homer, the Yankees finally won 11-8 in their extra inning. However, while the game looked like an almost perfect win for the Yankees, Juan Soto’s uncertain blunder running the bases could have cost the Yankees. Perhaps, reflecting on Soto’s running and Luis Roja’s game sense, Yankees manager Aaron Boone had a completely different take on both of them.

Juan Soto, often known to be a great runner between the bases, was seen fumbling into the Red Sox outfielder. Giving his stance on Soto’s incident, Boone said, “Juan got a really good read on it [running from first] and put his head down. Luis held him up. He needs to pick him up before he gets to third, obviously.”

Looking at the game, instead of having base runners on the second and third with a single out, Juan Soto’s blunder made the Yankees second out of the inning. As a result, it was Austin Wells who threw three pitches and kept the Yankees down to 8-7.

Also, visualizing a different angle of the game, Soto ran past the stop sign put up by Bronx Bombers third base coach Luis Rojas. From Rojas’s end, he gave Soto a stop sign at third along with the steps before Juan went on towards the third base. Fortunately for the New York Yankees, Soto’s base running didn’t prove fatal to their MLB comeback dreams.

Eventually, Trent Grisham scored a game-tying double and made a three-spot at the beginning of the 10th inning. Ultimately, the final blow from Grisham ended the Yankees losing streak against the Boston Red Sox.

Still, although Soto made a slight blunder in the play, he started the innings on a good note. The 25-year-old Yankees outfielder smashed his 27th homer of the 2024 MLB season—a two-run hit straight to the right-center field that went 400 feet. Followed by Aaron Judge’s 432-foot solo homer, the Pinstripes ensured they had the match in control right from the start.

Have an interesting take?

However, after winning a game after a series of losses, the Yankees might need to keep up the momentum. On the contrary, a team desperate for a change revealed the Yankees’s 2024 trade plans for the season.

The July 30th trade deadline is just a few days away, and like other teams, the Yankees might acquire new prospects. Speaking about the offense department, the Yanks rely heavily on Judge and Juan Soto. A recent outing against the Mets, when Soto smashed his 26th homer, offers a prime example of the two players’s dependability.

However, as per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees could opt for the Rays’s Brandon Lowe and infielder Amed Rosario. While Lowe ran into a low start in the 2024 MLB season, he has smashed three home runs in the last six innings. On the other hand, Rosario is batting at an average of.306, and with a humongous .740 OPS, he could be a great addition to the Yankees.

In the pitching department, the Pinstripes could trade their pitcher, Spencer Jones, for an ace pitcher. As per USA Today’s Bob Nightengake, the team is planning to go after the White Sox’s veteran Garret Crochet or Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal. The Yankees even had talks with the Cubs about acquiring Jameson Taillon. For the Cubs, Tailon has an ERA of 3.10 over his last 93 innings, and the Yankees could look after him before the trade deadline.

Eventually, after losing one game and winning another against the Red Sox, the Yanks still have one match left. As of now, the team stands at the second rank in the American League East with a winning percentage of.575. The Orioles are at the top, having a few games lead over the Bronx Bombers. Eventually, if the Yankees could win the next game and bag the series against the Phillies, they could pave their way toward the elusive 2024 MLB playoff spot.
