It certainly has not been the season for the New Yorkers. The New York Yankees and New York Mets have failed to perform well and are potentially out of the playoffs race. While the Yankees are last in the AL East, the Mets are fourth in the NL East. Though they play in distinct divisions, their similar woes have pushed them into the same box of miseries. But it seems to be part of the common problem.
Notably, the Mets and Yankees have shared much more in common this season. It includes changing plans, trading players, whom they once considered a crucial part of the team, and bringing young stars into the squad. But it does not end here. Both teams also share another similarity, which has helped the Baltimore Orioles heavily. It has acted as salt to their wounds, which has not only left them with extra pain but has also left fans in immense pain.

Whenever the New York Mets and New York Yankees come together, people imagine the Subway Series and a great contest. Because of it, fans don’t expect the top spenders in the league to share a common space without being against each other. But there seems to be a change.
According to @kazknowsball, both the Mets and the Yankees are funding the Baltimore Orioles in their success. It has happened after they continue to pay former players millions for playing against them.
The tweet read, “The?New York Mets are paying McCann $11M a year to play for the O’s. The Yankees are paying Hicks $10M to play for the O’s. Hicks with the O?s this season: 285/377/462, .839 OPS, 7 HR, 29 RBI, McCann this season: 229/271/402, .673 OPS, 6 HR, 25 RBI, Thank you, New York.”

Notably, the reason is the Aaron Hicks contract with the Yankees. Though they gave a DFA, he still owned around 27 million, which they will pay in the upcoming seasons. Similar is the story of James McCann. He owned $24 million after his trade last year.
Given that the Orioles are leading the AL East, and both players have contributed to it, the notion of New York paying for their success becomes true. Disappointed New Yorkers agreed with it and showed it in their reactions.
