George Lombard Jr. is a New York Yankees prospect in the top 100 of several top prospect lists on Baseball America or ESPN. Now, everyone’s wondering – is he that good? Well, he has a beautiful swing, and an athletic body, and the way he moves and strides makes it even better. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s got that classic “good face” scouts love to talk about in Moneyball. But make no mistake, he has a good footing in the game.
Why? Well, baseball is in his DNA. His father, George Sr., spent six seasons in the big leagues. He is a coach for the Detroit Tigers. His brother Jacob is already eyed as the 2026 first-round pick. But Lombard Jr. isn’t just following his father; he is making his own path, grabbing attention from teams.
He has the tools and the upside to hit 20-25 homers a season. At shortstop, he plays beyond his years. And while he may not be the fastest guy, he managed to steal 39 bases last season. It just proves that he knows how to capitalize on opportunities. Baseball America’s Geoff Pontes was at Pinstripe Territory and revealed that teams are noticing this young player.

“He was a guy that, consistently throughout the top 100 process,” Pontes shared on Pinstripe Territory. Pontes further added, “We had seven or eight different front-office pieces of feedback, and we sent it around to all 30 teams. We tried to, you know, collect as much feedback as we could. None of these pieces of feedback were from the actual Yankees organization, but we had eight different pieces of feedback back that were like, ‘You need to move up George Lombard Jr.’ He was the highest Green Arrow guy in our feedback process.”
This kind of attention doesn’t happen by accident. Clearly the teams see something spectacular in the 19-year-old. Plus, it’s not just his potential; even his swing is turning heads.
The host pointed out that George Lombard Jr. kinda hits with a close front side. Yes, like a certain three-time MVP, Mike Trout. Pontes also agreed and said he uses a scissor kick. “So, like, yeah, that’s a scissor kick. It is exactly what Mike Trout does when he’s hitting, you know, and how he utilizes and sort of leverages his lower half, which is a big part of hitting and getting to power.”
Well, there’s no doubt that everyone will have their eyes peeled on what Lombard Jr. can do. But for now, the New York Yankees fans are looking forward to watching another young talent take center stage—Jasson Dominguez.
New York Yankees will eye another star in center stage
Spring training is just a few weeks away. The New York Yankees are gearing up to get the championship win this time. Sure, they lost Juan Soto in free agency, but the front office since then has built a good enough roster. In the outfield, there is Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and 21-year-old Jasson Dominguez. Now while his peers are known, Dominguez is relatively new at the MLB level.

However, he is one of the most hyped prospects of the New York Yankees and league-wide, too. And after his brief stints in 2023 and 2024, this will be his first full season. Dominguez will be a starting outfielder, and he needs to prove himself. GM Brian Cashman shared with the New York Post, “I’d like to see Dominguez get his shot. Now, he’s young. He’s got to earn it, and he’s got to retain it.”
The pressure is ON!
But really, Jasson Dominguez can be a difference-maker. Over the 353 minor league games, he managed 47 home runs, 102 stolen bases, and a .816 OPS. And the New York Yankees don’t want an instant superstar either. But given there are questions around their infield and a lack of offensive depth, his role will be crucial.
