The CDC reports that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. get diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In 2023, it’s been almost 50 years since the Autism Society decided to hold the first National Autism Awareness Month. Even today, the U.S. reserves the fourth month of the year to spread awareness about the disability. Not only that, but many organizations across the country try to do their part for the cause. One of them is the New York Yankees.

The MLB team has been active with inclusivity in recent years, staying with the times. In fact, they even invited an autistic high school kid, Ethan Donn, to perform at one of their games recently. The team often receives fan appreciation for one thing or another. And this time, it’s for taking special care of a baseball family.

Special hats with the team’s logo in a multicolored pattern to represent the liability were given away. A few weeks later, a die-hard fan asked Twitter if anyone was willing to exchange them for cash or other Yankee memorabilia. He wanted to gift one to his wife for Mother’s Day. As it turned out, the couple’s 3-year-old son was autistic.

The account, Carmine in Englewood FL, later shared what followed – the New York Yankees official page reached out to him. They were willing to send the hat to whatever address Carmine shared.
