New York Yankees have lost some of their shine in the last decade or so. Big names like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Derek Jeter, Mickey Mantle, and Alex Rodriguez have been associated with the Bronx. But ever since these greats retired, the Yankees have been struggling. The newest captain Aaron Judge shows great potential, but unfortunately for baseball, he can’t be a one-man army. But things are looking up as fans look at one of the top prospects in the Yankees organization, Jasson Dominguez.

Churning out one good player after another, the Yankees have built up a reputation as one of the best MLB teams to date. Not only that, but given their history, the Pinstripes are a brand of their own. And yet, facing a 13-year World Series championship drought, one of the longest in league history, has fans feeling down. But team manager Aaron Boone has some hope for Dominguez just yet.

Jeter, unanimously known as The Captain, left a lasting legacy in baseball. The former shortstop was in a league of his own and once described how he approached his games. Talking to Men’s Health magazine in 2008, Jeter said how pressure can make everything move faster on the field.

“The bigger the situation, the more the game speeds up…all you have to do is the same thing you’ve always been doing. Slow it down. Realize you’ve been in this situation before. You’ve been successful in this situation before. Be calm,” he told Patrik Giardino and Mike Zimmerman.

And this is exactly what Boone referenced when talking about Dominguez recently. Bryan Hoch reported Boone saying, “The way I would put it is, what I’ve seen from him so far in the box, it’s like the game is moving slow for him. That’s a good thing.”

Is Dominguez really worthy of a Jeter comparison?

At just 16 years old, Dominguez signed a $5.1 million contract with the Yankees. And despite his age, the Dominican player has continued to grow at what some would call an alarming rate. And it’s not just the 15th Yankees captain that Dominguez got compared to.

With the 20-year-old being likened to names like Mickey Mantle, Bo Jackson, and even Mike Trout, Dominguez has a big legacy to live up to. But it’s like Jeter said. The way the player gains experience and then uses it in future games is what sets him apart. All Dominguez has to do is to learn and learn, and if Boone’s words are anything to go by, he will blow the ball out of the park sooner rather than later.
