New York Yankees’ newest captain Aaron Judge recently made headlines for an unexpected move. The 6ft. 7in. baseball giant has been making use of his stature as an outfielder in the ballparks. While he also broke a long-held home run record last season with some powerful hitting, outfielder duties are where Judge shines the most. So, fans were surprised to see him playing at first base recently.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Yankee star moved positions, as he spent some time at the center field last season. Judge used to play at 1B when he was in high school, so it must have been like slipping into old shoes. Originally, the 30-year-old was drafted by the Athletics as a first baseman. But is Judge serious about his new position? Recently, the Yankees manager addressed the same.

Fans and the media went into a frenzy when they spotted Judge at first base a few days ago. Anthony Rizzo signed a contract as the first baseman of the Bronx Bombers last season. So while Rizzo fans were worried about his future, Judge fans rejoiced at this new chance. But all rumors were dispelled by the Yankees skipper Aaron Boone lately.

YES Network on Twitter reported the truth of the matter. Boone addressed reporters, “We needed someone to take the throws. I don’t expect you’ll see him out there this year. Maybe five years from now, maybe it’s something we’re talking about. I know that story had some legs, but it was much ado about nothing.”

The New York Yankees – past, present, and future

The Bronx Bombers didn’t have the best season in 2022, much to fans’ disappointment. One silver lining in the Pinstripes’ time on the field was when Judge broke the AL single-season home run record at 62, last set by Roger Maris in 1961. Judge matched Maris 61 for 61 on Sept. 20 and audiences were abuzz with conjecture. On Oct. 5, All-Rise finally put speculation to rest and left fans delighted.

Now that preseason is here, injuries to major players have halted the chances of sure success for the Pinstripes. While Frankie Montas is set to go shoulder surgery, Nestor Cortes may be out because of a strained hamstring, and Michael King is dealing with a popped elbow. Only time will tell what 2023 brings.
