The 2023 MLB regular season seems like an unending misery for the 27x World Series Champions. After the brutal 8-7 loss against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, the team hoped to emerge more robust against the NL East leader Atlanta Braves. However, the game between the two teams at Truist Park proved quite a disaster for the New York Yankees, pointing fingers at one pitcher, this time in particular.
Hailing from Acworth, Georgia, just 20 miles from Truist Park, Clarke Schmidt was a devoted Braves fan during his upbringing. However, when he recently played against the team, he publicly admitted that he got his “a** beat” by the team’s offensive prowess.

Per MLB Insider Bryan Hoch, 50 of Clarke’s family and friends from Acworth, Georgia witnessed him allow a career-high eight runs on nine hits and two walks in just 2 1/3 innings. As this unfolded, the Yankees experienced a humiliating 11-3 loss against the NL East’s leader.

With the Yankees losing their third straight game against the Braves, the team witnessed Clarke Schmidt’s worst performance on Monday evening. Schmidt sank the Yankees deeper rather than bouncing back from the collapse against the Marlins. In Monday’s Yankees – Braves game, Schmidt’s performance became his worst start in three months.
In his defense, the 27-year-old pitcher, in conversation with MLB.com, said “Sometimes you get your a** beat a little bit out there and I think that’s kind of, for lack of a better term, what happened tonight.”
It was the maximum hit Schmidt allowed in a game since April when the Yankees played against the Texas Rangers. The real scare for the Yankees is that with two games left in the series, they plan on relying on either Luis Severino or Randy Vasquez or an opener in front of him.
However, the Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone, already under fans’ scrutiny, tried to defend his team.

Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone, impressed with how the Braves performed, said, “Right now, they’re the class of the league, clearly,” manager Aaron Boone said. “That’s where you want to be. … [They] have a lineup that’s really, really rugged and balanced. A little peek into where you’re trying to get to.”
This third straight loss pushed the Yankees’ record (60-59) to 5 ½ games behind the last AL wild-card position. Clearly leaving them with a mere one-game margin above 0.500.

Despite the seemingly low credibility that the team portrayed, Schmidt assured the Yankees continue to be a confident team and carry a solid winning attitude, which will be seen in forthcoming matches, “It’s not like we’re coming in here defeated”.
