The rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox dates back to the 20th century. It’s almost a century by now, but their rivalry still remains the fiercest in the history of Major League Baseball. The former Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter, had played for 20 years in Major League Baseball. And he had quite an experience over the course of his career while playing in Boston.

The treatment that Jeter got early in his career from the Red Sox fans might not have gotten to him. But it did get to his parents. They were so brutal while enduring the ‘Curse of Bambino’ they would not have let any Yankee leave without hearing a couple of boos.

Given the intense rivalry shared between the Yankees and Red Sox, Jeter also received lots of criticism from the Red Sox fans whenever he played at Fenway Park. And when talking about the brutality of the Red Sox fans, in Jeter’s own words, they did not even spare his parents.
Recently, in a podcast with Drink Champs, Jeter said,?“My parents didn’t even go back to Fenway park because they [The Red Sox fans] were brutal, and I’m sure Red Sox players would tell you the same thing.”

It is not a secret how the Red Sox fans have been treating their rival players over the century. And it was the same from the Yankees toward the Red Sox players. Fans booing the players who won against their team is understandable. But Red Sox fans were pretty harsh toward the Yankees players sometimes.
It’s been going on for almost a century now but the Red Sox fans seemed to have cooled down after winning a few World Series since 2004.

Derek Jeter also received a fair share of respect from the Red Sox fans
Jeter said that the fans have softened down after their 86-year drought of winning the World Series. Therefore, he does not have any issues with the Red Sox fans now.

Considering they gave him a standing ovation in his last game at Fenway Park; one can also admit that the Red Sox fans knew how to respect the greats in the game. Also, the Pinstripes have more World Series in their corner than their arch-rivals. And the former Yankees captain will always cherish this fact.
