Derek Jeter became a baseball phenom because of his hard work and dedication towards the sport. But his father also played a huge role in his life. It was his father who directed him toward baseball. It all worked out for him as he went on to become one of the greatest players in MLB history. However, it has been over 8 years since Jeter hung up his cleats.

Earlier this year, the former Yankee, in collaboration with ESPN, released a seven-part documentary that gave a complete look at Jeter’s life. From his days in New Jersey to growing up in Michigan, then his life as a Yankee. It showed a part of his life that almost no one knew about. One of those things was Jeter’s unique hairstyle, which he might have not liked at the time. ESPN posted a couple of pictures of Jeter having that distinctive hairstyle, which Jeter blamed completely on his father.
What did Derek Jeter say about his hideous hairstyle?
Jeter’s hideous hairstyle that roamed around the internet had people going crazy over it. Derek’s father, Dr. Charles Jeter, used to work as a substance abuse counselor and also used to play baseball in his college days. He is the reason that Jeter played baseball, and he is also the reason that Derek Jeter got a hideous hairstyle growing up.

Jeter, while reposting ESPN’s post, wrote, “For the record, the reason my hair looked so bad growing up was because my dad cut it. #TheCaptain.”
The former MLB shortstop had always admired his father and his determination to spend time with his kids. His father also gave up his service to work on Jeter’s Turn2 Foundation. It works primarily to help kids have a better chance at life by staying away from harmful substances.

Jeter has always idolized his father
He wanted to be like his father. Jeter pursued baseball as his father also used to play as a shortstop. The documentary about Jeter tells about his life growing up.

Whenever the Yankees used to come to Detroit, Jeter and his father used to go on a long drive to Tiger Stadium to see them play. On one such trip, Jeter had promised his father that he would be playing in a ballpark someday. He fulfilled his promise, and not only did he play, but he dominated the sport for over two decades.
