Jackie Robinson is an iconic name in the world of baseball. He broke barriers in the game by becoming the first African American to play MLB in the modern era. Baseball celebrates his achievements and accomplishments in a variety of ways, with Jackie Robinson Day being one of them. All MLB players wear the number 42 on April 15th to honor the day that Robinson debuted. Most recently, New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez shared a moment from 2011 involving Derek Jeter to celebrate Robinson.

Millions of people celebrate Robinson for his role in changing baseball while suiting up for the Brooklyn Dodgers. But A-Rod shared a special moment to honor the icon.

Every year, on the 15th of April, MLB players across the League honor Jackie Robinson by wearing his #42 jersey. Most recently, Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez shared an Instagram Story with a moment from 2011’s celebrations. It is a picture of him and teammate Derek Jeter standing side-by-side while wearing the #42 jersey. A truly iconic moment as two of baseball’s legends honor one of its biggest icons in Robinson. 

In the story, Rodriguez said, “Jackie Robinson Day (2011)” while sharing the iconic image with Jeter. This was A-Rod’s way of honoring one of the greatest change-makers in baseball history. But he is not the first to honor Robinson, with millions celebrating the icon every year.

In fact, his teammate in the Instagram Story, Jeter, has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Robinson. The Yankees’ legendary shortstop even said he’d want memorabilia signed by Robinson if he had to choose anybody. But A-Rod took his love for the Dodgers legend one step further, saying he’d love to meet Robinson.

During an interview, Alex Rodriguez was asked who he’d want to have dinner with, dead or alive. The former Yankees’ third baseman answered, saying it would be either Roger Clemente or Jackie Robinson. This is another instance in which A-Rod has shown his respect and admiration for Robinson.
