It’s said that history doesn’t repeat, it rhymes, but the New York Yankees wish life wasn’t poetry but prose. Even a slight rhyme from last year’s disastrous performance would prove to be a bigger heartbreak than what Ryan Gosling experienced in La La Land. But signs of a tough time were there from the beginning of 2023. While this time the Bronx Bombers are in a better position, they can’t rest on their laurels just yet.

The architect of the Yankees’ demise last season was injuries. A lot of injuries! When one looks at the number of players that got injured, it’s a surprise that the Pinstripes managed to limit their losses. With Spring Training beginning soon, there’s a lot that the Yankees are doing to avoid the same story.

Spring Training 2023 was quite a disaster for Pinstripes. The Bombers began their journey with a lot of positivity, especially because they were coming off a 99-win season. But then the injury bug bit the Bombers and by Opening Day, nine of its players were out from injury. This year the Yankees are hoping to remain healthy. As The Athletic reported, “But the more they (Yankees) can keep themselves upright, the better chance they’ll have at starting April strong.”

Yes, the Yankees aren’t the only teams who got ravaged by injuries. In a league that has every team playing 162 games, injuries are natural. But to get so many even before the Opening Day? That was some bad luck. But the Pinstripes have learned a lesson or two from this fiasco, as can be guessed by the progress of their two players.

Giancarlo Stanton has been going through an injury issue ever since entering the Bronx Squad. The slugger has failed to complete a season since 2018 and that has had a detrimental effect on his performances. However, recent pictures of the former MVP show him looking visibly thinner.

Similarly, Carlos Rodon has worked extensively on his injuries. The pitcher suffered through back problems throughout the season. He, too, has lost quite a lot of weight in recent months. As a result, there’s a positive sign for the Yankees.

The future is looking bright for the Pinstripes

With most players joining the Spring Training home in Tampa, the Yankees look to be heading toward having a strong Opening Day squad. If they manage to stay healthy, it’ll be like half the battle won for the Pinstripes. As Brian Cashman once shared, it was the unexpected underperformance of players that affected the Yankees. One knows that Rodon’s inconsistency was related to his injury problems. What if it was the same for others?

That’s why the Bombers must find a way to stay healthy. Despite this offseason not going exactly as planned, the roster is stronger than in 2023. And the Yankees certainly wouldn’t want that strength to vanish because of injuries.
