Spring Training is perhaps the greatest opportunity for a young prospect. One of the few times when the main team’s staff gets to witness them slowly, this is a surefire way to turn yourself into a starter. New York Yankees top prospect Will Warren is hoping to write a similar story. The 24-year-old has taken the world by storm after a successful Triple-A stint. Now waiting for a main team debut, Warren has already planned what he’ll do during Spring Training.

The Yankees collapsed after a rash of injuries to their pitching staff last season. While they hope that it doesn’t happen again, if it does there’s a big chance that Warren might be the one to get called up. But the pitcher isn’t depending on luck in his quest to become a first-teamer. He has a lot more on his mind.

The journey of Warren hasn’t been easy, but it has certainly been rewarding. However, his obsession with self-improvement and his ability to get coached quickly turned him into a clubhouse favorite. Gradually, the 8th-round pick became one of the fastest-rising stars in the Yankees ecosystem. The Athletic recently interviewed Warren regarding his upcoming career plans.

When asked about the fast-approaching free agency, Warren showed his self-confidence was at an all-time high. “I just want to show them what I got, I think how I finished the last year at Triple-A, I was not expecting it to happen that way. But I think I definitely showed them a side where it’s like, ‘Oh, dang, we kind of need to look at this guy.’ “ Warren’s interest in proving himself stems from the immense self-belief he has in his abilities.

“I’m definitely just going out there and just laying it on the line. I believe in myself. I definitely think that I can get better, for sure.” Warren declared. His confidence stems from his great Triple-A campaign in 2023. In 21 games (19 stars), Warren had a 3.61 ERA and a strikeout rate of 9.9 hitters per 9 innings. In his last 10 games, the pitcher had an astonishing 2.10 ERA.

But despite such strong performances, there’s huge competition waiting for Warren for a position in the Yankees.

The rich depth in the Pinstripes

As of now the Yankees’ rotation looks fixed with Gerrit Cole, Carlon Rodon, Marcus Stroman, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Clarke Schmidt leading the line. In the bullpen, Warren will compete with the likes of Clayton Beeter and Luis Gil, among others. With competition ever increasing in the pitching staff, Warren has a tough road ahead of him.
