“Unlike His Son…”: Yankees Fans Lament Current Ownership While Celebrating Former Owner’s 93rd Birthday

New York Yankees’ current ownership is under immense pressure. They have not won a World Series since 2009. Even this year, the Yankees’ form has sparked an immense debate as they continue to struggle to win regularly. Most recently, depressed Yankees fans took the chance to criticize the current ownership while celebrating the late owner George Steinbrenner’s birthday.

Currently, the Bronx Bombers are enjoying some decent form amidst Aaron Judge’s prolonged injury absence. But fans are still unhappy with how Hal Steinbrenner, their current owner, has dealt with the team and its management. Per fans, Hal has not matched up to his father’s legacy just yet.

George Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973 and transformed the team. Under his ownership, the team won 6 World Series titles before he stepped down and his son Hal Steinbrenner took over. Most recently, the Yanks celebrated George’s 93rd birthday, 13 years after his tragic passing. The team’s official Twitter account shared a touching post to celebrate ‘The Boss’. They even shared pictures from a few of his biggest moments. 

In a Tweet, the Yankees said, “Today we celebrate and remember The Boss 💙”. More than a decade after his passing, George’s profound presence and winning mentality is missed. Furthermore, amidst a World Series drought and some poor playoff showings, fans are upset with his son.
